Something to think about. The 21 foot rule freaks me out! I like this guy; USCCA always offers good training tips. Good magazine too. Thanks for posting.

Yep. If I perceive a threat at 10 yards (30 feet) I'm initiating the verbal commands and starting my draw. 21 feet is just way too close. But then, that is why you practice shooting from the hip.

Yes. And to me the older we get, that 21 foot rule needs to extended further out to let's say 25 or even 30 feet as our reflexes just ain't what they used to be.

If the guy doesn't have a weapon wouldn't you just go old school and brawl ?

Everybody wants to shoot somebody instead of having a good ole fist fight....

Good video and training, something to think about. I have a 20 foot rule...but this makes a person think, What if? We train for the ideal surroundings but we all know that this is not the case in today's world.

One of the instructors at the range told me that he was in a training class for the 21' rule, and the attackers came after the trainees with foam or wiffle bats and hit their helmeted heads and arms. The only way he could draw his pistol without getting clobbered was to move laterally away from the attacker which finally gave him enough time to draw & fire the laser pistol. But he said it took 2-3 attempts before he finally realized he had to do something else or take another beating!

I go to the range but never practice the John Wayne style of shooting at a target. I am going to have to remember next time to shoot from the hip.
