So I bought this Solo Carry with tritium sights last Sept, '13, and
didn't rush getting a few round through it. Now have 150+ rounds
thru it 115 and 147 in weight, two different noses, four different mfgs.
Whats wrong so far:
1. Front sight blade loose (real loose)
2. Occasional FTF (did it on all above ammo)
3. Magazine release stiff (takes two thumbs +40lbs pressure!)
4. Safety thumb lever on right slide side is loose.
5. Starting to loose finish and chips easily.

Called service today and was told to watch a video on assembly?
Magazine release was designed to be stiff?
Try 124gn brand name / home defense type ammo.
Check serial number online against recall numbers.
Oh.................bye.

Knowing its up to the owner to work thru the issues to get it reliable,
safe and accurate. And I have had to do this before........with a few
rifles, never a hand gun. This is more than one would imagine for
a higher priced aledged quality piece.

Owning a Kimber Crimson Ultra Carry ll in .45 has been a delight.:)
After a couple hundred rounds.....your spoiled! And there is
nothing wrong, or going wrong.

Did they have to let it out before it was really ready?
And by the sounds of it, most of above issues are "common".
This one goes back on the shelf till fixed.

Welcome Scout, from the East Bank of the Raisin.

You mention Tritium sights on a Solo carry? I thought they came with standard sights new? was this a used Solo? or a different model. No matter,
Get her back to Kimber, its a shame ya have too, but, they will make it right.

SORRY.........
Here is a late update after the SOLO was returned for repairs.
Finally got a return number mid MAY 2014. It was specifically
going back for loose safety, FTF, FTE, Front sight post loose.
Mid June it was returned. Since I was moving, and selling the
house it was packed as is to the new location.
WELL.........It now January 2015.....I took it out and went to the
range to fire it after repairs, and break in a new Springfield
XD 9mm 3" barrel. The Springfield XD is a pinch fat, but very easy
to handle and fire with superior accuracy. It ate four different
types of ammo, from 4 mfgs, and hit the ten circle every time !
OHH...back to the SOLO. yep back from the factory all looks good,
and has powder marks from them test firing it. SO load it up and
get em down range. One in the chamber, mag is in and locked,
safety off, align sights to target at 25'......slow squeeze......CLICK !
Pull the slide back to eject, and recock........slow squeeze.......Click.
Repeat the above twice more. ...nothing going on here ! Unload and
clear the weapon. Work action and pull trigger...seems okay, but lets
look. SLOWLY took it apart and found the spring below the slide lock
catch not in it proper place, from the factory. Reassembled and loaded
and tried again....bang bang bang...okay ! Now reload with another
ammo type......bang ..FTE, clear .. bang, FTE, clear. FTE, FTF. Okay,
back to the premo stuff.
And I hear there are many that can shoot about anything thru theirs.
And There are some that work perfect......this one doesn't.
A very high level diet, and very fussy about where the round is
located in the mag. this one has issues if the first round is the
SLIGHEST bit forward, and issues about ammo.
Easy to handle...yes, easy firing...yes, accurate .. yes!
Dependable, flexibility with ammo..........NO ! !
Like I said there may be good ones out there I hear.......
I've carried for a long time and had too for survival,
on the job a number of years.....My two cents is this
puppy is going bye bye ! Scale 1 to 10 overall a "3" .

My Kimber Ultra carry 2 .45 is a jewel !

Wow that must be so dissappointing. I would ask Kimber for an entirely different gun.

And............to ice the cake.
Upon post firing inspection and cleaning I also find
the lock lug in slide top are peening over and chipping
at the ejection port ! !
This is one classy pistol !

I have a suggestion--and in many ways, I'm serious.

Sell the Solo for whatever you can get. Then go buy a titanium Medford Praetorian. Yeah, it's a knife, not a pistol. Here's my argument.

Most physical exchanges occur in low light (with low lifes) at remarkably close ranges. In that regard, the Medford is more lethal. Here's why.

The handle is solid titanium with a four inch D2 steel blade and a wicked skull crusher on the butt cap. It will slash through anything and even pierce a Kevlar vest.

Even with a backhand kubaton strike, the butt cap will break a guy's jaw.

Unlike the Solo, it will never jam. No matter what credentials you have, you can carry it anywhere, except perhaps the subways in New York City.

The knife never cracks, chips or loosens. It's even tough to get it dull. For my money, it's superior as a defensive device to the Solo.

Oh, here's the good part. You won't have to break the household budget to get one. After all, you found enough money to buy the Solo, and the titanium Medford Praetorian is the exact same price.

Thank me later, I love mine, and I ain't buyin a Solo...

This from the guy who told me there was no practical, viable self defense knife?

I would have a problem with selling a gun known to have issues to someone else. My 2¢ is to keep after Kimber until it functions properly, they refund your money, or replace the pistol.

LOL. I did not say "viable" or even "preferred."

I simply meant it's better than a Solo.

Consider the inductive reasoning. We have lots of guys who express disappointment with a Solo. Everyone loves the Praetorian. Voila.

True words spoken. I have talked to Kimber and the final outcome is yet
to be. But it won't go out to end up in some unknowing persons pocket.

I went back to carrying the Shield 9mm and or Ultra Carry2 .45
(depending on weather)

I also carry a knife. But I didn't hear about the ten foot rule from the
edged warrior.

Continue the story.....................
So I call Kimber again and explain the condition it was in when I got it
back from them and what it did recently at the range. Explained that it
still produces FTE and FTF on occasion with "APPROVED" ammo.
That the magazine is next to impossible to get out. That there are
now peen marks and chips on the inner slide lug locks.........AND
wait for it.................I was told its NORMAL.....NORMAL!

Guess I'll have to think about my next move on this.
I'd have to take a camera with me, but what if I took it to the cop
station and ask them to MELT the bitch. Then click a pix of how
far the jaws dropped. priceless !:D

My question is "Why the HELL do people keep buying those Solo pistols, Not a one of them functions right."

I guess some people have nothing better to do with their time than worry over a non functioning pistol. Somebody needs to sue Kimber for that BS pistol!

Getting the word out seems to be extremely hard, and no one in the
industry seems interested in the safety or longevity of the purchaser.
And like a rotten used car ....get the cash and get it over the curb!

Just the amount of bad ones out there should form a good class
action suite. As long as they can and do put people off with no
further attention.....their good! Maybe they are waiting for the people
with junk solos to throw them in the safe and not bring them out or
mention them again? .........problem solved.

Anyone know of a attorney with firearms knowledge?

Hey, Scout.
I see this is an ancient thread, but I'll chime in with an observation I've had on my Solo. It's about eight months old, and gets carried about 50% of the time. I was VERY surprised by the tendency of the finish to "chip," as you described previously. The sharp edge of the dust cover, the butt, and all around the mag well are dinged up with tiny chips. It's as if the special Kimber finish is made by Rustoleum.

So I called Kimber, again and went thru the speech on my SOLOs
specific quirks, and strange habits. And again its all normal !
I can't understand how or why, its getting that they refuse to even
acknowledge the issues. Cutting it in half and shipping it back to them
IS REALLY starting to look like a REASONABLE outcome.

Funny I have a WW2 /1939 Polish Radom 9mm, that has less wrong
with it...... it actually has nothing wrong ! It still works perfect !
It will eat anything you put in it and NOT EVEN ask for something to
wash it down with ! The design of that also was said to be derived from
the 1911.
GEE ........wasn't that said about the SOLO ......someone was a BS'in !

Funny.

The problem with your thinking is that folks aren't just showing up on the Forum after they have issues with their Solo. Take Husker for example. He was here just a few days ago all excited about getting his new Solo. A few days later he's posting pics of a broken gun.

If you really believe it's just a few guns that have problems out of thousands, then the odds of someone like Husker just happening to post about his new Solo and then having a problem would be very remote.

Solo has earned its reputation for not working. It is what it is.
