8400 classic 300 win mag loads

Hey gang, i recently aquired a new 8400 300 win mag. I am starting to develop some loads for it but I'm wondering if you guys have any experience with the 8400 in 300 win or some good known loads for it. I have 165 180 and 200 grain noslers for it. Thanks

I was hoping for a good known load to start with, there a hundreds of loads to try
If they are in a reloading book they are all good. I think what you are asking is "best load". It's a science and an art.

If you are a completion shooter then you will know that one size does not fit all, and that you will be experimenting a lot for each bullet make, weight, ballistic coefficient, etc.

For the hunter for ranges 100 to 300 yards, factory ammo will be more then accurate, assuming the shooter does his part.

In addition to the particular bullet, different brass, powder and primers can also make a difference in accuracy. Each individual rifle will have a particular combination of these that it will "like." This combination will give you the best results. You need to work up a number of different loads, then try them to see which one is best. I always took a notebook to the range and kept detailed records on the performance of different combinations. I didn't load for the .300 Winchester Magnum, but I did load for the .308 Winchester and the .30-06.

I see this thread is getting a little old but will post this anyway. Have not messed with .300 WM for years but used this load in a Ruger 77 for deer and antelope. 150 gr Hornady Spire Point crimped on the groove, 75gr 4350, CCI 250 primers, WW cases. Was a solid 1" grouper in the 77.

This is my Kimber 8400 Police Tactical in .300 Win. Mag. The best load I've come up with so far has been the 210 Grain Berger VLD bullet over 70.5 Grains of Reloader 22 Powder. Primer is a Federal Gold Match 215-M. I used new full length resized Winchester brass, and kept the C.O.A.L. to 3.575.

This load will cut ragged one hole groups at 100 yards for as long as you want to sit and squeeze the trigger. It holds good accuracy out to well past 600 yards as well. You may find you have to vary the overall length to keep the bullet .020 to .030 off the lands.
