Here is a drill that my group of shooting friends have been starting our session with lately. It is meant to be a cold drill. So first shots of the day.

Three USPSA or IDPA targets mounted at the same height, one yard apart at the shoulders. All targets are online 12 yards from the shooting position.

Using a shot timer, start at the buzzer. Draw and shoot one shot to the center of mass (COM) of the left target, the head of center target, COM of right target. Then head of right target, COM of center target and finish on the head of left target.

Record time. All hits must be "clean" to get the recorded time. A head shot hit and an "A" zone (or "+0" on IDPA target) chest on each target is clean. If not clean, that run is an automatic +30.00 seconds.

Repeat two more times. Add total time for the three runs.

Training goals:
Learn what YOU can do. Shoot for perfection.
Balance speed and accuracy.
Controlling the movement of the gun by transitioning target to target due to each shot requiring a change in lateral and vertical movement.

Drawing from a holster and shooting will get you escorted out and banned from every range I've ever been to in the northern part of Illinois.

Same here. Wish I had some private place to shoot.

Our range has a highly controlled public range like that. Then the club bays for members sanctioned to use them unsupervised for whatever they choose. IPSC matches and the like. Then there is the range at work too. Couple more years and this will be my full time range I hope. I bought this a few years back (if I can remember to how to post pix).

I wonder what they think the harm is?? If you're in your own stall,I don't see what the problem.Our range here has no issue with it but maybe it's because the walls in the stall can withstand a 44 magnum.{at least that's what they say}

A training drill section would be nice. Kind of like postal matches. Members can try each other's drills and post their progress in threads with that drill. Internet grudge matches!

Premature accidental discharge, even if you only shot yourself their insurance would go through the roof if it wasn't canceled and they'd probably lose their license.

At a range I go to, they will allow holster work under these conditions 1.) Inform them you are going to do it. 2.) You must do it on the first or last lanes only. And 3.) You must be up in between the divider panels.

Interesting drill.
I've started practicing with the holster draw, 2 shots, safety on, re-holster. Went out back and did this today, putting about 20 rounds each through 3 1911's. With 2 of the 3, I was hitting just down towards 7 o'clock. With my Kimber, I was making the 2" diameter metal spinning target just fly! I could tell where the other rounds where landing because of the holes being punched in last nights snow.

Now that sounds like a "cold" drill!

My totals have just under 18 seconds. My son is just breaking 20. We shoot at Rob Lethams home range and sometimes shoot with him and have lunch afterward. I want to get TGO to do it to see his time. I bet he is at about 12.

Nice Mike!

As soon as the 5' of snow gets down to where I can get to my shooting area we will try this, just got my shot timer from Wilson combat the other day.

Thought I would bump this up again to see anyone has shot this yet and what you think. I just ran a squad through it tonight at work and think they were humbled a bit. Only one ran all three string clean and he was 26.xx on it.

Oh and if you do not have a shot timer but have a smart phone at least for iPhone, Surefire has a free app that is a shot timer and works. Save $100!
