[HIPCHIP]

Hi all, I go by HIPCHIP. Just purchased a Pro Carry II to try. I usually carry a SA full size 1911, but it's a bit too big and heavy for CCW, so thought I'd give the PC II a try.

Looks like a really nice gun, and I was surprised at the price as most Kimber's I looked at were up around $1500.

Seems like they are tight guns and need some TLC for the break-in, so any advise on that would be appreciated.

I won't pick up the gun for another couple of weeks (I live in the Kountry of Kalifornia). I've heard about changing to a different tool for the take down and that it needs the 500 round break in with cleaning at 100-150 rounds. Also about changing the recoil spring at 800 rounds, so lots of stuff to think about. Should be fun though.

Welcome from StLou.I just changed the recoil springs in both my PCII's after a couple thousand rounds through them.{my bad on not changing them sooner}I used the little "L" shaped take down tool and it was so easy to do.Give it a good cleaning right out of the box and then go do some shooting.Enjoy your new Kimber and if you have any questions,just ask..

Welcome to the forum from northern Illinois HIPCHIP, congratulations on the new Pro Carry II. You seem to have the basics down, clean and lube before taking it the range for the first time and use 230gr. Ball ammo to break it in. I'd suggest instead of waiting for your new gun to arrive you download a copy of the owners manual and go over it, that way if a question comes to mind you can ask it before you actually have the gun.

Thanks all. Actually snagged the owners manual from the box and have read it. I checked out some of the YouTube videos too. Looks pretty easy to work on. A lot recommended the little slide thing that replaces the L tool, but I don't see is as being a big problem, and another $50 could be better spent on ammo, or springs.

Don't buy that tool, get your gun broken in and when it's time to replace your recoil spring get a Wilson Combat Flat Wire Spring Kit and throw your little tool away. From that point on you'll be able to break your Kimber down without any tools.

Welcome from Ky. The Pro Carry II is a great gun. I got mine for Christmas and have shot 1250 rounds so far. I had one FTF at 750 rounds then went to Wilson Combat mags and never had another. At 1000 rounds I put in the Wilson Combat flat spring which lasts a lot longer and can be put in and taken out with no tool. Some say it shoots smoother, but mine was so smooth already, I couldn't say I noticed. The slide pulls a little stiffer, the gun is very tight and solid. It just feels like a very high quality gun. And, the first thing you'll notice is that you are a better shot with the Kimber. Great choice. You're going to love it. Here is mine:

Quick question on the break-in and pre-break in cleaning and lube. Should this be just a basic field strip, clean & lube, or a complete disassembly? Don't want to have to pull everything apart if I don't have to, but don't want to neglect it in case it needs to be done.

Also, same question for the cleaning every 100-150 rounds during break-in, field strip or disassembly?

Field stripping will be fine. Read your owners manual, it tells you what you need to do for break in and maintenance.
