I snuck out to the range today with 2 Kimbers but primarily to see how the trigger on my Sig P238 is progressing. Flawless run of 50 rounds through each of the Kimbers then broke out the Sig. For the first 100 rounds everything was fine the trigger felt much smoother and lighter then around 130 I started getting an occasional light strike. The light strikes became more frequent so I packed everything up and headed for home. Everything checked out fine and looked good so I thought maybe the firing pin spring need replacing (yes I had one). I push the firing pin in and drop the stop and my now 2 piece firing pin slides out. From the way the ends of the two pieces were peened it looks like it has been broken for some time, maybe I received it that way?

I looked online for a new firing pin, not available any where. Called Sig's parts department and tried to order one, customer service guy says new firing pin $16.00, S&H $14.00 (bite me). OK I bit the bullet and told him to send it out, he takes all my info and credit card # then says they're back ordered. After cursing under my breath he asked what happened so I explained the problem. He says it's a new gun, send it in for service and I asked how he was going to fix it if they didn't have any parts? I said it was a simple fix and I could do it myself instead of shipping the gun back to the factory. He puts me on hold for 5 minutes then comes back on the phone and said if I could wait approximately 2 weeks a new firing pin will be mailed to me from the custom shop. They are going to fabricate one free of charge. I thanked the man and said now that's the kind of service I'm used to getting from Kimber LOL.

OMG, that's awful. And 2 weeks to fabricate a firing pin? Do they have Gieuseppe in the back with a steel bar and jewels file working on it?

I sure hope nothing goes wrong with Sweetie's P238.

No he said it will take about 1 week to get the work order authorized and sent out to the custom shop where it will be place in the system. Once it's made it will spend a couple of days in the USPS system until it gets to me. What floored me was the $14.00 S&H charge for a $16.00 part if I was buying it.

Exactly, they could sell parts at their cost and still make a profit off the shipping and handling charges.

Sorry to hear it. I love Sig Sauer products and never had an issue. But I love Kimber as well and have issues. Hope it gets fixed quickly.

Thanks Ultraman, this doesn't turn me off to Sig Products, I still think they make a great gun. There's a difference between guns with chronic problems and a simple part failure. All should be good to go about 15 minutes after I receive the new firing pin.

Had to be. You didn't pay $4,000 for the gun, so I'm sure it's a POS.

Wait. That means we have a POS too. Oh, the shame, the humiliation.

I nominate Jeff for sergeant in charge of keeping the liquor cabinet full and before you remind me he's 6'-3" I'm going to remind you he won't be after we kneecap him.

Good point. But if he shows up with that Buttwizzer he'd better have an accent when he says, "De plane. De plane."

Once you are cut down to size (get it?) you'll see things from out point of view, haha. Buttwipper is not wine and wine is not liquor, but you're young grasshopper and have much to earn. I say earn because we have good taste in liquor and it's not cheap, feel free to consult with Gmountain if you need recommendations.
