Chatting Thread V about nothing in particular

Time to close out chatting thread IV and open V. This is the 4th time I'm doing this since we started the forum. The forum software has problems when threads get too large and 9,000+ posts is right on the threshold so to avoid problems we move on to V.

Well, since this is a chatting thread I'd like to kick it off by asking some questions I often think about and maybe an opinion or two.

First of all I'm aware that "anything" can happen at "anytime". I read all the time people talking about how many rounds their gun holds, how many extra mags/rounds that they carry, about quick magazine changes, and so on and so forth.

To each their own but seriously, other than some type of law enforcement or military situation, how many times have you heard about an individual being in a gun battle where all these things were necessary? I don't live in a highly populated area and most all the individual shootings I here about are 1 to 5 shots.

I believe that smart thinking, a cool head, fast hands, a quick draw, and above all ACCURACY means victory. My opinion also is that if I get involved in a gun fight with say a "gang", it's not going to matter how many rounds I have, I'm probably not going to make it through. One on one or one against two, give me fast quality shots to disable the threat.

I'm sure a lot of people won't agree with this train of thought but it is my thought and everybody has one. Hopefully we will never have to put this to the test.

Have a safe great week guys & girls.

Can I play? This is a big subject, and perhaps we'll all bore of it before all is said and we're in agreement. :D

First off, if your adversary wants you to be dead, you'll probably be dead. Shoot you from behind, easy peasy, end of story.

But if you encounter an armed adversary who isn't shooting at you on initial contact, he probably doesn't really want you to be dead--otherwise you already would be. And that leads us to your observations.

"Quick thinking," as you noted, is key. "Quick thinking" should not be confused with "quick action." It might be better to initially comply or stall, while you assess the situation and weigh all your options. Perhaps it's best to just give him your wallet and live to see another day.

"Quick hands and fast draw" needs clarification. If the guy has a gun on you, merely drawing your own gun should be off the table. Unless your name is The Waco Kid, you're not quick enough. His hammer will fall before you clear your holster. If you've practiced a whole lot--and I mean a whole lot--you might be able to take his gun and serve unto him some pain and sadness. It's an option.

If the guy doesn't have a gun trained on your head and he's not a warrior, perhaps you can draw your own gun before he can do you physical harm. But that's a gamble and a bold assumption--things you need to consider with that "quick thinking."

There are so many variables, that in this context, we can only hypothesize.

I agree with ya'll 100% and yes at home is a whole new ballgame. I got to train quite a bit with some DEA friends on clearing a house or building with an AR so I keep plenty of magazines loaded along with my pistol and shotgun at home.

Goodnight fellows, it's that time.

Morning Dave, morning ladies and gentlemen. We've got 33 degrees in my neighborhood and that looks like that's all we're getting today.

Week half over and freezing rain on the roads today, we are suppose to get out first snow on Saturday. Wind chill going to be -7 in a day or two. I was really hoping to not get any of this crap this winter. Oh well, at least we are not in the Sierra's they are suppose to up to 70 inches in some places.

Good morning, my friends. It's a tad cooler than it is for Chuck, I've always thought that while we are both close the Wisconsin/Illinois border, we are separated by a climate line.

They predicted rain and sleet last night, and when I got up the house was cold. I asked my wife if she was going to the gym, and she stated she was tired, cold, and could not get there in time for class. Frankly, ice on a dark road bothers me, and I was still worn out from yesterday. I just got up now.

I'm behind in my polishing for some reason, it seems I need a bit of time getting up and eating a little bit with Buspar chaser. I want to finish three knives today since we will both be home for most of the day.

Good morning, KT family. It's about 2:30AM here. What a change from yesterday! I'm actually looking forward to the gym!

As you know, Madison has the most incompetent bangers and height in lows for weather men! For two days they have predicted sleet and rain and scared everyone and their mothers about black ice.

Well, during those same two days not one drop of water has hit the
ground! I looked out the window, and everything is dry.

My wife took me to mall yesterday, and I didn't really want to go. I got a strange case of agoraphobia. Once there, I joked with friends, met the latest in short, dangerous tattooed female baristas, and even enjoyed my coffee.

Came home and worked on some knives. What a change!

19° here this morning. Supposed to get up to an inch of snow tonight, which means instead of sleeping like any intelligent person, I'll be out buzzing around my route with a sander salting the crap out of everything. They're calling for 8-12" Saturday night, so my weekend is blown too. Since they can't get anything right anymore, that probably means two feet. Regardless, It's gonna be a long week.

Morning Chico, John and JBear, morning ladies and gentlemen. It's 28 degrees in my backyard headed for the mid 30's today. We've got 2 snow storms headed our way that has the BBWB's undies in a bunch.

Chuck, I still think this is a "plunging Canadian jet stream."

All the weather that our weather fornicators projected never came to pass, but it's hitting you. If you look at the daily videos of the weather, you'll see a solid line of bad weather that runs no farther north than Janesville, Wisconsin.

Since it's a Canadian front, get a good supply of 'serviettes' to wipe off the snowflakes...

Morning/afternoon KT peeps. Eight thirty this morning saw me hitting the deck getting ready for a 9:45am yearly wellness physical. Good news, bad news, bad news I'm a year past due for a colon scope. Good news I've lost over 10 pounds since last October, putting me currently 10 under 300. Other numbers good, got to watch the sweets and carbs. I expected that Aruba cruise to blow the weight numbers out of the water (see what I did there...I crack me up) I guess I was walking off most of the calories on the ship. Everything you wanted or needed was always at the other end of the ship from your location, bar, pool, pizza, bar, bar, cabin, dining room, bar, well you get the picture.

The other day in the mail I got the renewal form for my handgun carry permit. It was going to be $50 bucks for I think 8 years. They had a new option get Lifetime for $200 dollars so I went that route. Swung by the drivers license place, only had the wait about 15 min total, they took a new photo, paid my 200, new permit will arrive in the mail. Mine didn't expire until April 1st but I didn't want to put it off until the last second. Easy peasy.

I think Chuck and I are "ships that pass in the night." Usually the first thing I read on the forum is Chuck signing off. Of course, I get up too early to get to the gym, and he's probably asleep by now.

Tomorrow is Saturday, my day off from everything. Of course, my wife will go see her mother, and the weather idiots are projecting colder temperatures and some snow, one to four inches.

Of course when "mommie" calls my wife and my SIL drop everything and drive 65 miles to make sure mom has enough macaroni and Pampers.

If I sound annoyed, it's because I am. I'll be trapped in the house with her dog while they all eat at the casino and lose money--like we have any.

Morning folks. I should be out salting my properties right now, but I cleverly guaranteed that wouldn't be necessary by wasting four hours after I should have left work last night trying to get my sander- which worked like a dream in the last storm- working. I hate those damn things. Regardless, it was all to get ready for the snow that never showed up this morning. Oh well. It'll make up for it in spades this weekend...
