1st time poster - Kimber lover...

got my hands on a original classic custom
rough shape though
barrel is rusty, previous owner did not take care of it, was told that he used corrosive ammo.
i have tried several products and lots of elbow grease to no avail
some of the finish is also worn off

needs new barrel-1st priority - suggestions?
the finish i can touch up most likely

i also would like to change out the black sights?

thoughts on this please

The first thing I'd do is find a good gun smith. They have the tools, the knowledge and from my experience, they work really cheap. They can clean it up, make adjustments and probably tell you what shape your springs or other parts are in.

Then there are lots of restorers, refinishers and so on that can make it look new again. I think there is a least one here on the forum.

There are lots of sight options. I bought Heine Straight Eight Tritium sights with a cocking shoulder. Straight Eight means you align two dots vertically (8) vs three horizontally (ooo).

Welcome to the forum from northern Illinois dave800, seriously, try giving Kimbers customer service a call and telling them what you have and the condition it's in. I wouldn't expect them to cover anything but I've seen them do some very strange unexpected things. You've got nothing to lose, the 800 number is a free call.

Hey Ya'll!

I'll start off with welcome to the forum from beautiful downtown Monroe, Georgia!!!
Sky Water Water tower Tower Font

You should jump into the introduction thread and say "hey" to the group!!;);)

Now, for your needs for your recent purchase/deal!! MidwayUSA (Shop Shooting Supplies | Reloading | Gunsmithing | Hunting gear ? MidwayUSA) has .45 ACP 1911 barrels from $57 to $250 and you can pick up excellent sights from them also. They have night sights available from Trijicon, Meprolight, Heinie and Warren. The XS Big Dot sights (https://www.xssights.com/) are excellent for around $100 or less.

As for the finish, I could not give any recommendation without seeing the pistol first. How about pictures. We love pictures here!!! Hope some of this information helps!!;);)

All Kimber can offer is to send it back and they will evaluate it.
They don't have any barrels they will sell to me by itself, they may install a new one if they cant repair or clean my existing one.
roughly 275 to refinish it and 200 + for new barrel and fitting if they do it as a project.

i will have to decide if i want to spend that much on it or see what i can do locally
