Concealed Carry

I would assume a large percentage of us on this forum excercise their right to carry concealed, as do I. Today's
"mass shooter" seems to make their weapon of choice an AR type rifle, not only that many are now wearing tactical
gear, including bullet proof vest, among other things. Would I go up against a shooter with an AR and tactical gear,
with my 1911, not unless I was standing right next to him/her. I would be heading for cover just like everyone else at the mall, park, diner, nightclub name the place. By the time police arrive they really have no idea who the shooter is,
that makes anyone with a gun in their hand a target for them. Should the shooter come looking for more victims like so many of them do my 1911 may greet them, but by them possibly wearing a vest a shot needs to be precise and delivered quickly. I will always carry, but the above scenario makes me rethink how I may go about things.

Welcome to the party.
I had the same awakening a few years ago.

The Eli Dicken shooting was a huge eye opener. Eli stopped a shooter in a mall that had an AR, with his Glock CCW, at 40 yards.

I argue from time to time with experts here who think a snub nosed 5 shot j frame is all you need.

Reality isn't a police show from the 80's.
You attacker isn't going to be a stereotyped lone mugger at the ATM.
It will likely be a mass shooter with an AR or a gang of criminals/peaceful protesters with AKs and Glocks with switches.
Predators travel in packs these days.
A 1911 is fine, but you might want to carry spare mags in case of a malfunction, and have a backup ane to exit the area.

These days I carry a SigP365xl with optic and a spare mag. I have 29 rounds on me.
(I would feel comfortable with a 1911 too)
I also have an AR in my truck with 4 30round mags and a few 100 round boxes in the back.

I'm not "taking on" a shooter unless he is shooting at me. I will do the needful if I can, but I won't actively engage. I'm not trained for that, and I'm not a LEO.

The idea is the handgun gets me to the truck, and the rifle gets me home.

I've always carried with the idea that my gun was an exit tool to get me away from a situation, hopefully without having to use it. Nonetheless, I have 8 rounds in my Ultra Tactical and 2 spare 10 round mags on my belt. At days short of 80 I can't see myself running very far or fast and hearing about the children being killed at these shootings, maybe it's time to rethink that.

I think my biggest concern would be getting shot by one of the responding LEO.

For a good while now EDC is full frame Super Carry Ultra Plus .45 and always one 10 round mag and depending on destination up to 3 additional 10 round Chip McCormick mags.

I think my strategy would maybe be hide and ambush if escape did not seem possible. I was never a fast runner so for me that’s a dumb move.

I would be a big fat surprise popping out from behind the Coke Freestyle machine and squeeze off some shots…

Every situation is different, of course, but I think the chances of my involvement would be pretty slim once the LEO's arrive. I agree, however, that a close encounter with a mugger or carjacker isn't the only possibility to prepare for.

If you are in an urban area, your best bet is to MYOB. Even if you do the right thing and succeed (like the Marine on the New York subway) the social justice warriors will make you out to be the bad guy.

I’m glad that we don’t have those problems (social justice) around here. We recently had a home invasion in which the home owner shot the intruder. The sheriff declared it a good shoot at the scene and the homeowner left with his pistol.

100%. For those outnumbered there’s only strength in division.

I live in the swamp.
Very rural farm area.
I carry the rifle in the truck mostly to shoot feral hogs, and spontaneous trigger therapy 😁...but I drive to Macon, Savannah and Atlanta for work sometimes. Auctions and such. Sometimes after dark. I won't ever die from lack of shooting back.

...in Church (read on the Security Team) partner and I go to the sound and return fire as soon as possible. ...in the public domain, I am too old and slow to go very far very fast; take cover and ambush is my thinking...

Yup, nailed it.
I've told my wife for a few years now, that the fabric of our civilization is slowly being ripped apart, and when it tears apart, it's total anarchy.
One only needs to look at the nightly "news".
Be prepared....... lay in plenty of ammo, head on a swivel 24/7, make certain the entire family is also "aware".
The leftists have their long-term plan to destroy us. Take heed, act accordingly.

I agree with you on everything but the slowly part.

I’m with Chuck on that. The rate of deterioration in this society as a nation, and now globally has been frighteningly rapid. I’m afraid we are beyond the point of return in so many ways. Once the things that are being defined now have been defined they are going to be irreversibly defined. In addition to that, I have no faith in the groomed generations rising up now to be as bold, courageous, determined, and ambitious enough to commit to the long and increasingly difficult effort it would take to reverse the course we are on as a civilization. I think we’ve already been as free as we will ever be again and a free way of individual thinking is being exterminated from existence.

It doesn't scare me that the left is trying to destroy the nation.
They have been trying that for ages.

The truly scary part is how far they have gone in the short time Biden has been in office and what that means.
They have crossed the Rubicon with the corruption and illegal activities.
They cannot ever relinquish power or they will hang. They know it, and have weaponized the 3 letter agencies against the citizens.
They are actively trying to purge patriots from the military branches.
They want a civil war.
They may lose the fight, but even if we win, we will lose the America we recognize and love.
That should scare the shit out of every one of you.

My CC is for me and my immediate family. We will go somewhere safe and wait to see who shows up first as to whether I shoot or holster my gun.
