Concealed Carry

2478 Views 98 Replies 23 Participants Last post by  gyoja75
I would assume a large percentage of us on this forum excercise their right to carry concealed, as do I. Today's
"mass shooter" seems to make their weapon of choice an AR type rifle, not only that many are now wearing tactical
gear, including bullet proof vest, among other things. Would I go up against a shooter with an AR and tactical gear,
with my 1911, not unless I was standing right next to him/her. I would be heading for cover just like everyone else at the mall, park, diner, nightclub name the place. By the time police arrive they really have no idea who the shooter is,
that makes anyone with a gun in their hand a target for them. Should the shooter come looking for more victims like so many of them do my 1911 may greet them, but by them possibly wearing a vest a shot needs to be precise and delivered quickly. I will always carry, but the above scenario makes me rethink how I may go about things.

I read the first few posts and loved it very much. It was pert and relative. Then in my opinion, It got way off topic. All I did was make a simple post as the boy this is off-topic. Then you all had to chime in and make comments on that which wasn’t necessary. Then I defended my post. Now you’re bitching about that. You’re bitching about the country and how it’s going to shit. Sorry, but we live in the best country in the world. We have the most freedoms. I can buy a gun almost anywhere without a problem. I like living here regardless of how fucked up it is and I will stay here. I made a simple comment about it being off topic but you guys took offense to that I’m not sure why. I read all of the post hear some twice.
micro9 dude: Really sorry to hear you're so offended and thin-skinned.
How about re-reading your post above (#41) and pick out all the incorrect spelling and bad grammar? Then you'll have something to work on in your spare time without having to resort to being offended by reading responses to your whining.

"Sorry, but we live in the best country in the world." Absolutely true, and our forum members were trying to illustrate how those currently "in charge" are trying their very best to destroy it from within.

This is a forum, not Wikipedia.

Well, you can always try. :)

Now by your leave, I'm heeding the advice here from goya75 and hitting my range for some pistol drills and practice drawing from concealment on my steel with my EDC that's currently in rotation. That is still the topic here, correct?

Anyone that only wants to read posts that are on topic and have rules like a Nazi prison camp they should join the Smith & Wesson Forum. They FOLLOW all forum rules and don’t cut anyone any slack.

That’s the great part of Kimber Talk, we may drift off topic from time to time but usually come back around and I almost all of us are COOL with that except you (micronator9).

Chit there I go off topic again…my CC is a Super Carry Ultra Plus with extra magazines!

POST OFFICE.

Wait - it's not like there's ever been an active shooter at a post office. No need to be prepared for that.

Yes indeed. Reminds me of where the term "going Postal" originated. No bad deeds in that regard from those 'boys in blue' for some time now. Although other confused individuals have certainly taken up that slack......much to our collective detriment.

It's a new world out there now. And I recall the phrase "Victory goes to the prepared". That applies to us on an individual basis more now than ever. Carrying and being in a relative high state of awareness now is more critical than it ever has been in recent memory.

Welcome to the party.
I had the same awakening a few years ago.

The Eli Dicken shooting was a huge eye opener. Eli stopped a shooter in a mall that had an AR, with his Glock CCW, at 40 yards.

I argue from time to time with experts here who think a snub nosed 5 shot j frame is all you need.

Reality isn't a police show from the 80's.
You attacker isn't going to be a stereotyped lone mugger at the ATM.
It will likely be a mass shooter with an AR or a gang of criminals/peaceful protesters with AKs and Glocks with switches.
Predators travel in packs these days.
A 1911 is fine, but you might want to carry spare mags in case of a malfunction, and have a backup ane to exit the area.

These days I carry a SigP365xl with optic and a spare mag. I have 29 rounds on me.
(I would feel comfortable with a 1911 too)
I also have an AR in my truck with 4 30round mags and a few 100 round boxes in the back.

I'm not "taking on" a shooter unless he is shooting at me. I will do the needful if I can, but I won't actively engage. I'm not trained for that, and I'm not a LEO.

The idea is the handgun gets me to the truck, and the rifle gets me home.
Unless someone steals your truck. I have had 3 vehicles stolen, one twice so thats 4 times I have gone to my vehicle and it was not there. Never leave a weapon in the vehicle. Thats just one old guys take on it.
The one time i did leave a weapon in my vehicle i was standing at the checkout counter and a guy came in and robbed the establishment at gunpoint. My pistol was in the glovebox about 15ft away and i was looking at the car wondering why i left it there. This all took place within sight of the police station.

We don't have a manager here, we have an owner (not me) and a poor excuse for an over the hill administrator that will be 80 on the 25th (that would be me). I try to let everyone have their say, it worked back in 2013 when I first joined and found this place struggling to gain a foothold. Posting more than 3 times a week lead me to becoming one of the most active members and got me promoted to moderator and with the new ownership administrator, I must have been doing something right.

A topic that goes off-topic good and a topic that goes off-topic bad is a judgement call on my and Islanders part. Members come and go, the hardcore stay, and at 80 I'm still leaning from them, in other words I don't know it all, and I'm still open to learning.

Anyone having a problem with the way the forum is being run can PM me, I'm always open to civil discussions on improving the way I do things here or valid reasons for me to step down.

Because your post complaining was on topic?
Or is it always someone else's fault?

If you are happy with the way rights are being stripped, and the direction this nation is headed, you might be part of the problem.

I can't imagine why anyone would get annoyed when someone interrupts a discussion to complain.

3 vehicles stolen?😳
Damn man... you need to move.
Don't live like that.

Auto theft is way down on my list of concerns.
I don't leave my truck unattended in sketchy areas.
I spend time at auction yards, and at businesses. I sometimes pass through some shit holes.
Someone is always with the truck when I'm working, or it's locked in a guarded yard.

The rifle is locked in a cage in the back, but easily accessible from inside.
My handgun is on me if I have pants on.

I live in a rural farming community...in a swamp.
Feral hogs are a major issue, rather than feral humans.
That's the main reason for the truck gun.

i did move and now I am 30 miles west of Seattle, another cesspool.

I did stop a 4th vehicle from being taken, my work truck, by tapping on the passenger window with my 1911 as the puke was trying to figureout how the brake lock worked. He left in a big hurry.

VERY WELL SAID!!!👍
In todays environment those that carry openly become a target . In concealed carry, you have options. A concealed carrier needs to have continuous situational awareness .such action adds to long term stress but necessary in these times.vigilence and having a general plan formed but subject to immediate change as the situation unfolds. Keeping your firearm concealed unless you are engaged may prevent you from being targeted by LEO‘s who upon arrival will consider you with an firearm exposed is the shooter. Not every person is a good or luck shot as the person who shot the guman at 40 ft and stop the threat. In most situations you need to think defensively.
