I like the functionality of the Kimber extended mag for the Solo, but consider it to be less than aesthetically pleasing. A search of the internet for mag extensions resulted in zero findings. So I purchased a PG-MK9: KAHR grip extension from Pearce Grips thinking it was the closest fit and went to work. Two holes, threaded, with SS screws resulted as follows. Not my best work, but it was fun. Perhaps Pearce will provide a proper mag extension for the Solo in the future. I believe it would help those folks with a tendency to "limp wrist" the Solo's extensive recoil to reduce stove pipes and FTF's. :D

Follow up on request for Pearce Solo Mag Extensions

Well, I talked to Lane with Pearce Grips a couple of weeks ago about them making mag extensions for the Kimber Solo. It is my understanding that Pearce will not be providing extensions for the Solo due to certain manufacturing complexities that would make it more difficult to provide as an easy add-on for the common buyer. Apparently, this has something to do with the mags being very similar to those of a 1911.

I also mentioned that I had taken one of their extensions and modified it to fit on my Solo. Lane was interested in seeing what I had done so this morning I sent him some pics. Still, I don't think any extensions that are readily installed on a Solo will be forthcoming from them. Details from my email to them are below...

Comments:
• Extension is the PG-MK9: KAHR
• Two holes were drilled into the mag baseplate and the extension using a hand held drill (a drill press would work much better)
• I tapped the baseplate holes with national coarse threads (I couldn't find a fine thread tap at Home Depot; I used the smallest drill and tap they had available)
• Using a larger drill bit with similar profile as the screw heads, I counter-sunk the thread holes to enable the screws to fit flush
• I tried to move the extension more forward, but I couldn't due to the placement of the access hole for removing the baseplate from the magazine
• After installing the extension to the baseplate, I ground the threads flush.
• I can't remember if I used threadlok or not. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea.
• It all functions correctly, although it takes an extra push to get a fully loaded mag to engage the mag release catch.

I am a member of the Kimber forum and will let members on the Solo sub-forum know that Pearce will not be making mag extensions for the Solo. There will be a few disappointed people. Some pics...
