Hello from 50 miles west of Chicago.
I'm a Glock guy. I love striker-fired, polymer pistols with only automatic, sequential, internal safeties. So why am I here?
I've been shooting for 40 years and shoot all sorts of weapons. I was first taught to shoot by my police officer and former MP father, now a long retired police chief. As far as handguns go, I shoot many types and a day to the range not only included my Glocks and similar pistols, but also often included my S&W 29 .44 magnum or 40-year old Walther PP.
I became increasingly interested in 1911 models and lately have been renting various types at the range where I am a member and shoot weekly. They don't have high-end 1911s, but the Springfield TRP and Champion Operator I have been shooting at the range are sweet. And I do love .45 ACP.
So, with my CCW permit about to be issued (as IL becomes the 50th state), I have been thinking how I might carry a 1911 instead of an Austrian gun. Some of my CCW classmates had Kimber or Wilson Combat 1911s. I did my research and decided I wanted a Kimber Master Carry Pro. I was talking about this over dinner with my stepdad. Two days later when we met for breakfast he showed me a photo of one he had taken at our local Cabela's. Then he handed me a gift card and said there was plenty to take care of it. Best gift ever.
Now a shiny new Kimber joins the others in my safe and my range bag during regular trips. But, more importantly, it also goes into the Milt Sparks holster on my hip as soon as my permit arrives.
And that's my story.
