Just signed up on Gun Broker. Game them all the info they requested on their registration form, but after receiving the confirmation email and clicking on the "activate" button, I entered my password and it returned a message that they could not confirm my identity and wanted me to send them a copy of my drivers license or a utility bill. Are they kidding? Did any of you have to do this?

The FFL system of transfer should be sufficient.

I went back and logged in. It let me in and showed my userid, but did not ask for additional anything.

That other message really set me back. I'm a very cautious internet user and try hard to avoid fraud/scams. Maybe it will be ok. I guess I'll know for sure if/when I try to purchase something.

Still waiting to see what Sweetie's medical bills are going to be, but this looks like a pretty good deal.

Free shipping, no credit card fees, free Kimber range bag ($52 at Midway USA)

OK, so maybe not everything is well with GB. Signed back in, tried to send a message to a dealer than this is what popped up.

An email has been sent to customer service.

My guess is that it is just a matter of some information does not match exactly.
Between shipping and bill to info: Name, address, etc.

Here is their response. Looks like I will not be buying guns through Gun Broker.

The contact information that you entered was unable to be verified. We use a third party service for identity verification; they do not give us a reason for a failed verification.
This is why we request to manually verify you with two forms of ID that have your name and address. The most common forms of ID are a DL and utility bill. You may send other documents such as your carry permit, vehicle registration, insurance card, voter ID card, cell phone bill, or other items received with your name and address.

You may black out any details such as account numbers.

You may fax the information to 770-573-3671, or email it to [email protected]

We do this because our auction service involves the purchase and sale of goods between users; we require valid information to help increase the security for all of our users.

Regards,

Don't know what you did, but when I registered years ago it was simple and still works to this day. Never heard of anyone having the problem you're having?

Worst part is, they can't/won't explain what their "third party" service does or does not understand in my registration. But I will NOT be sending copies of personal documentation to them. I'll just pay a little extra and buy from my LGS.

OK, just as a follow up, and in the spirit of fairness, this morning I decided to send some id information to GB. I blackened out all account numbers and put the infamous "black bar" across my face. They accepted this and activated my account.

This was probably a bad idea. I have already been temped to immediately increase my credit card bill.
