Hi there, just joined and saying hello. I bought my Custom II stainless back in 2003 when I turned 30. I've been spending more time at the range lately, and shooting very well with this 1911.

I've been shooting since I was a boy, family had a gun store. Uncles were ex-marines, gave me an appreciation for the 1911, Garands, AR, M14 and M1 Carbine etc and have carried a 1903-A3 more than anyone my age I think. Not some kind of accomplishment, just narrative.

Natural for me to choose the 1911 since I worked on them and shot them as a 13 yo, and after owning berettas, Sig 220, etc (never a glock) in my twenties, I discovered a manufacturer that I had never heard of as a boy. Good move. Great shooting gun, glad I bought it. The others were fine too, but not the same.

Also bought a Sig P238 a month or two ago, great little 1911 type gun.

All the best,

Cap

pictures

Hi Bigdog, if the people like pictures, that is what they will get! Here are my two 1911's. Do we call the little single action Sig a 1911? Sure looks like one, acts like one, and breaks down like one. I really like it as a carry weapon, but it is also fun to shoot. Not nearly as fun as the Kimber though. When I am an old guy, I'll carry a full size, but for now, I compromise and have something that I actually carry. I spend time offshore on a small boat, and have chosen stainless for functional reasons. I also like them, but for pure asthetics, a nicely blued pistol is hard to beat. Guess I need another one. If I hang out with you guys, you cannot let me buy another one. For at least another year :)

Here are some targets from the range last week. I have not been shooting much at all, but will be spending more time on the range over the coming weeks. Well, after corn and hay, anyway...

10 yds

20 yds

Thanks for the warm welcome, any feedback on targets appreciated. I am going to work on my grip next time - left hand -and try and avoid the 7:00 and 8:00 shots. Need lots of practice, and like many of you, it is very relaxing.

P 238

What model P238 is that, I've got the SAS.
Hi Chuck, it is also an SAS. A great price for a gun with night sites. I was looking for something better than the Keltec P32 I was carrying - super light, but not something I longed to shoot much. The grips are burl walnut from The Finer Grain - maybe his name is Adam or Sarge? I've always wanted some grips like that, but they are less practical for sure.

His name is Ryan and he goes by Sarge on the internet.

This is another example of his work these are Buckeye Burl

Welcome to the forum from Ky. Agree on stainless. I shoot a stainless Pro Carry II. Also love blued guns. In fact, my next purchase will be a Kimber Royal II. Full size, charcoal blue finish and bone grips. That's pure sex right there.

And, nice shooting. Especially at 20 yards. That's too far for me.

That's the guy. I bought them right after back surgery in March, kind of a blur. Your gun looks awesome; great minds think alike! (my wife's idea ;)) I was not crazy about the stock grips, that were an advertisement for sig. They're not that bad....but I needed to take them off.

I did buy one extended mag like yours, would like to have more one day. Unless I get a micro carry. Not any time soon.

cheers-

Hi PorscheVille, the rich blue with bone is pretty hot, I would own that gun in a heart beat.

Thx for the feedback on the shooting. I can't really see what's going on out there, I just aim for it and it is a surprise when it comes back. Was somewhat dissatisfied in the past with the stock sites, but I'm going to shoot with them for a while and see what happens.
