Having to press the magazine release

To load a magazine! I just recently field stripped my new Kimber 1911 Custom II. I haven't shot it yet. When I put it back together, I began to incur problems with my magazine loading and releasing. I thought I made the correct adjustments and it now easily releases the magazine.
Well...I was unable to load an empty magazine until I pressed the magazine release and then pushed the magazine in. I pushed the release again and the magazine dropped out.
Any suggestions to fix this?

Are you saying that before you field stripped your pistol you had no problems locking an empty magazine in the pistol?

Are you using the magazine that came with the pistol?

What caliber is the pistol?

Does your pistol have a compact frame or a full size frame?

I thought I made the correct adjustments and it now easily releases the magazine.
What adjustments are you referring to?

(4) I used an Allen wrench on the mag release screw (opposite side of the pistol) and twisted it some.
The mag catch lock is either fully engaged or fully disengaged from the frame. The is no intermediate setting. Said differently, the lock is either fully rotated clockwise to engage the frame or it's fully rotated counterclockwise to be disengaged from the frame. It takes about 1/4 of a turn to either fully engage or disengage the catch lock.

The mag release screw doesn't actually screw in or out. It has a tab that engages a slot in the frame to hold the catch in the frame and it has a slot in the catch that allows the screw to retain the catch spring when removing the mag catch assembly. If you're in doubt, find a You Tube video that will explain and demonstrate this in detail.

If the catch screw turns out not to be the issue, check out the link below for additional possibilities.

1911 - Why is it so hard to seat the magazine and how do...

Here's a Brownells video on the mag catch.

Here are a couple of pictures of the mag catch screw and how it fits inside the mag catch.

One thing you can do to further isolate the cause is to remove the slide then insert the magazine, lock it in place, then push the magazine catch to release the magazine.

If the mag does not lock in place relatively easily or if it does not freely drop out of the frame when the mag catch is pushed in, check to see if the magazine body is in contact with the ejector when it's locked in the frame. If there is contact, the underside of the ejector where the contact is occurring needs to be be relieved to eliminate the contact. Once this is done, run the test again to be sure the mag locks in place and drops free when the mag catch is pushed.
