Good evening everyone,

picked up a .38 Super what I believe to be a Target ii(the model is covered by the scope mount). Can anyone give an approximate value or age of the pistol? I want to pat myself on the back for a good deal lol.

The hammer drops to the half cock position when I release the slide but other than that it appears to be in pretty good condition.

Please ignore the crap optic, it came with the gun. The scope mount is marked Wilson Combat and I didn’t see any markings on the charging handle.

I appreciate the help.

Welcome to the site from Tennessee. Model is a Stainless “something?” Could be Stainless Target? Is the original sights included? Need to know exact model for value…I would guess in the 600-800$ range.
You can call customer service they may be able to provide a build date if you give them the serial number.
I assume holes were drilled for the scope mount?
A rear sight that’s a charging handle…not seen that before.

Yep, Target Stainless II. Shame they drilled the frame, but 38 Super is a popular caliber for some of the shooting groups. If you are planning to return this to factory standard there are few things to undo. Likely has a light trigger you will want to test to see if you like. Might not. Hard to tell until you tear it down. In this condition it's in the $400-600 range, possibly a bit more with the league shooters.

Welcome to the forum. I’m thinking closer to $600 without the optics. Without the exact model it’s hard to tell. Call Kimber with the serial number.
I was trying to be nice when I went up to 800 but I agree it's more like 500-600 cause of the possible holes in the frame.

There was a 1911 for sale over on the 1911 forum recently that the owner was asking "what are these holes for?" Seems drilling the frame for the old Wygand (sp?) optic mount was very popular in the 1970's at the emergence of pistol optics, used primarily for competition then. Looks like WC also did this mod, but we just don't see it often now, so there must be more than a few various makes of 1911's floating about that have been drilled like this.

Doesn't affect function, just looks funky.
Reality tells me too it's in the 400-450 range and would be ideal for a project-oriented guy with a TIG back in his shop and knows how to use it.

If I were guessing I’d say someone has done a bad trigger job on the pistol. Of course, the world’s greatest trigger job is quickly destroyed by either (1) not holding trigger back when releasing slide or (2) letting slide slam closed on an empty chamber.

The holes in the frame for the scope mount wouldn’t bother me at all. I’d remove the mount, put the correct adjustable rear sight on it, have a gunsmith fix the sear and be happy with a nice Kimber in 38 Super.

You will love shooting 38 Super especially if you reload. It and 10MM Auto are my two favorite pistol calibers.

Looks good Chris! I've avoided adding other calibers (.40, .38super, 10mm etc.) to what I already have...

In maybe years ago I should have give them a go but not now.

Arland, correct me if I'm wrong, don't you still have the Two Tone .460 Rowland to get worked in?

Yes, my Two Tone has completed its 45acp breakin period and is awaiting range time testing setup as 460Rowland. I do now have 460 ammo on hand just have to get to the range. To be honest I’ve not been real motivated to go shooting without my good shooting buddy.
Since I consider 45/460 a combo caliber I added it as another caliber.
