Kimber Pro Raptor II

Hello,

I'm a new member to this website as well as to the kimber gun family. I own numerous guns to include quite few 1911's from various brand names, but always wanted to own a Kimber model since they are a very well recognized manufacture. I purchased the Pro Raptor II but recently I have been reading on kimber reviews and have been quite in disbelief to see so many negative comments on kimber guns from manufacture defects to very weak parts and so on to the use of MIM parts. MIM parts does not bothers me as many weapons factories use them on assembly lines. My question here as a new kimber owner is: did I purchased an outstanding piece that I can enjoy as far as home defense,conceal carry, and target shooting? or a $1,200.00 paper weight based on different forums opinions. Your suggestions or comments will be appreciated. Thank you.

Hello and welcome to the site..

not sure of your Raptor , but am sure of MINE.

I purchased a Grand Raptor II , about 5 years ago..

one of the finest firearms in my collection,
great lines, great looks, great feel, and it goes bang after bang after bang.

can not say enuff good of MY Raptor..

but , and here is the catch.. it seems the Kimber line is not consistant from one firearm to the next ..

YMMV to the max..

seems as though if you got a good one , you got a great one, and if you got a lemon, there is no lemonaid , just lemon..

sorta like dating the hot chick at the local bar, either good or bad, no 1/2 way ..

Pat, thanks for your opinion.

I bought the Raptor not only for its looks, cause sure it is damn good looking, but the sad thing about is that Kimber was always known to be a maker of great guns not lemons.... and to get a lemon from that kind of manufacture for the price you paid for is not acceptable. The quote "you get what you paid for" in this kind of name brand of guns is out of question as you expect to get a very reliable weapon that you can trust your life when needed for the kind of money they cost. I'll keep up the thread whenever I take it to the range for a test drive!!!! Thanks again.

I just bought my second Kimber. Would not have bought a second one if my first was not great. For comparison purposes the only other 1911 I had was a Colt Gold Cup that I sold years ago. To be nice I would say the Kimber is comparable.
To be honest I would have to say the Kimber is better.

Great!, I have a colt 1911 as well but is one of those safe queens 100 year anniversary one hard to get. Also I have a 1911 Desert eagle that is awesome and great to shoot, but once I take the raptor to the range I'll think about which one would be next...

Jose,, I agree,,, even if the gun is free ,,, if it does not operate , it is overpriced..

the Raptor is a near custom made firearm ( near , but not there ) and regardless ,,, it has to go bang, each and every time ..

good luck with getting yours to operate, keep us posted on the status.

Any update from the range? How did your Raptor shoot?
