I've only been a member here for about 2 months, I joined in July. I really like the forum and I'm a little curious about it. What's the story behind it, is it owned by a company, an individual or a group of people. Who are the officers, I've tried looking through the introductions but haven't seen anything by the administrators or moderators. In fact I don't think I've ever seen one of them participate in a discussion or actually online.

In any case, I was just curious.

Think about this, from what I can find the forum is 10 months old, you joined 7 months ago and I joined 3 months ago yet between us we are responsible for approximately 1/5 of all the posts since day one, I think one of us has too much free time on our hands LOL.

Yes you are correct. I don't know who is running this but I enjoy it and check it several times a day . I am self employed realtor so I am on the computer all the time. I also enjoy the 1911 forum .

I'm 70 years old and retired for 13 years so I have the time. As for posting more I'm willing but I do a lot better responding to someone then originating a thread unless it's a joke. I'm here like everyone else to learn, the other night I read a thread about holsters and ended up ordering one from a company another member posted about. I've never owned a holster before because "I live in Illinois", I think that's self explanatory. I check the forum first thing in the morning while sipping a cup of black coffee and last thing at night sipping on glass of Jack Daniels on the rocks.

Forum talk

A forum dedicated to just one manufacturer of the 1911 platform really narrows the conversation. I joined mainly to learn more about the SIS series Kimber ran for a few years. Personally I carry an Eclipse Ultra. It runs well, but looking to go with the SIS. Not a fan of the Series 80 firing pin disconnect additions. From what I read here, the SIS had some inherrant function problems.

I looked through all this stuff a few weeks back when I first started figuring out things here were......uhh....well, let's just say a little slow.

Has anyone ever PM'ed any of the Admin's listed to see if you get a response that way? Maybe if they knew there was some signs of life here their interest might be rekindled.

Chuck43, What part of Illinois do you live in? I spent the first 27 years of my life in and around Chicago. A couple years of that was in the Fox lake, Antioch area......

I grew up in Chicago on the near north side and moved out to the suburbs just west of O'Hare airport about 45 years ago.

The forum software says there are 1672 registered members.
Of those 1672 members 1429 have made 0 posts so this place is running on the backs of 243 members.
If each of those 243 members made one post a week this place would rock.

I'm thinking that the forum basically runs on "autobots". That is, the system is "controlled" by way of key words. If a key word is posted, someone comes in to see what the issue is, remove, whatever. Otherwise, they just let it run.

Let's see, first Nellybelle thought it was the NSA, I can understand NSA. But autobots? OK, that's way over my pay grade, I don't think I even want to know what a autobot is LOL.

Autobots are used on the net quite often. It's a term that describes a program used to search for something. Usually it's simple activity, as in tracking for good, or bad, purposes. But the programs can be used to search for key words too. Like if some members got into a serious name calling rant, it might trigger a live administrator to check out the problem and take some sort of action.

So basically it's a computer program that monitors itself and reports infractions, amazing what will they think of next?

And to think I was amazed when they upgraded our telephone so we didn't have to share the line with another family or talk to the operator to make a call, it had a cutting edge rotary dial that allowed you to do it yourself.
