This Kimber thing cracks me up !!!, but I digress, I've been carrying firearms since 1978,(24/7) Colts, S&W, HKs, name it I've probably carried it or fired it at one time. I've shied away from Kimbers until I bought a Super Carry Ultra HD ( now thats a name) Anyway this girl gave me fits until Steve from Allentown explained the issue. 5 minutes later she was running like a top. I did have an older SIS pro back in 2008 or 9..sweet gun but had to sell her due to a divorce ( I think that was wife #2) Anyway to my point...hopefully Monday I'll pick up my KHX pro and.....wait for it. Another SIS Pro !! I feel like the gun gods have righted a wrong !!! To be honest Colts have given me more issues than any Kimber, and right now I'm carrying a TLE custom..any way thanks guys I love lurking and gaining some great bits of info !!!

Kimber makes a better 1911 than Colt these days.
Colt has the name recognition and the history, but overall, Kimber makes a better gun.
The ONLY reason I would buy a modern Colt 1911 is for the rollmark. I would swap the internals with Wilson parts, and a Kart barrel.

I agree !! The only Colt I still have is a 73 Gold cup. Every single newer Colt I've had..had major issues..and their customer service, well they told me to polish the feed ramp???? Go figger. LOL now mind you they had no idea if this was my first Colt or twentieth...

Ok I'm jealous !!! Heck brother all ya need is one with a rail !!!! So what did you do about night sights??...I wish they were trijicon at least they replace tubes!!
I could have bought a SIS Custom with rail but it didn’t appeal to me. Didn’t do anything about the night sights, none have been EDC.

I don't believe in mounting lights on pistols either, but rails are cool AF. Why? No idea.

In the words of Boomer parents everywhere: "because".

None of my guns have rails, I don't believe in attaching a light to any handgun.
I recently bought an inexpensive weapons light. So far I put it on 3 different guns and now it’s sitting on my work bench. There nothing wrong with the light, it actually works really nice but I don’t have any holsters that would accommodate this light, so if I want to carry any of these guns, I have to remove the light. That’s just a pain. I’m glad I didn’t break the bank on this light. I wouldn’t buy another. I’m sure I’ll figure out something to do with this one. Just another personal preference with guns.

Have to agree with ya there Ninja! A new Colt commander caught my eye at LGS recently. But when I handled it, it had the absolute WORST trigger I’ve ever felt on a 1911! I’ve handled other Colts that were very nice, but this one scared me off!

My last two Colt 1911's are down the road, a Combat Commander and a Series 70 Gold Cup. Considering all the work I did to them over a period of 20 years compared to the reliability and function of all my Kimbers, it was basically an easy decision. Virtually every one of my Kimber 1911's has run, and run very well right out of the box, and still do.

Same goes for my Colt 22 Conversion Unit. It was probably a good idea many years ago, but that floating chamber carbons up with only 50 rounds through it, making it a paperweight until cleaned thoroughly. My two Kimber Conversions run until I'm out of ammunition!

Same here, Chuck. From my training, I've learned that a WML basically makes you, the light source, the target in low light SD situations to the attacker. Holding the light "off" with your support hand changes the dynamic dramatically, and lessens the chances of directing incoming fire directly at you. My last pistol with a rail was my Kimber TLE/RL II. Gone now as my nightstand weapon. Too bulky to carry, and I've got better bedside weapons without a light source attached.

There are advantages and disadvantages to the WML.
1000 lumens to the face in darkness will blind everyone not wearing a welding helmet.
That could buy a few precious seconds.
Then again, if there are multiple targets, it could pinpoint you as the target.
Mounting the bezel proud of the barrel will allow you to push the gun against a target and fire without taking it out of battery.
Then again, the extra weight on the end of the gun throws it off balance and can affect accuracy and gun handling.
It's a trade off.

I’d never get rid of my Colt Mk IV Series 70. My orig carry back in ‘81. Had it tuned, still can rack it and had it cut for new sights. Then re-chromed.
Still shoots like a fine tuned machine.
