I have at least a dozen semiauto pistols including 3, 1911 style guns. I don't mind cleaning any of them except the Mako. It's not the cleaning, it's the takedown. For some reason I struggle with it to the point of frustration. For whatever reason I haven't mastered the procedure yet. I have watched videos several times and know the steps but most of the time it doesn't work.
Is it just me or do other owners have difficulty with the takedown?

I cleaned mine first the first time this week. Watched the take down video that Mr Cain had posted here in the Mako section. The slide came off so fast I thought I had broken something. I used my left hand to move the slide back and right hand to pull down the take down slides and it slipped off like butter. Go get a cup of coffee, relax a minute and then give it another go.

The first time I took mine apart the recoil spring shot across the room. The unusual ejection port and way the barrel mates with the slide is a bit different than other pistols in this class. Thus the takedown is a little different. As Wicked said, just do it a few times.
