A couple of years ago, we had an Asian family from the SF bay area take a GPS "shortcut" through the mountains to save 50 miles of freeway driving. Tlhey were both employed in the tech industry and relied heavily on tech and their GPS instead of a paper map and common sense. The logging road they took had 2' of snow that got deeper as the elveation increased. The dad tried to walk out to the hiway after getting stuck and died of exposure. Thankfully the USFS guys found the mom and baby in their stranded car before they perished too.
DON'T TRUST THE GPS IN PLACE OF COMMON SENSE!
