I’ve had a kimber montana 8400 in .300 wsm for years now , at the time when I purchased it , was told they didn’t offer the kimber in the .308. I ran up a post (can’t remember where) that someone had a .308 montana 8400 for sale . Did they offer one ? Every other firearm I own is pretty much a .308 and would love to go with the .8400 in the .308 . This is my current setup , I use it here in the Mississippi delta / Louisiana for whitetail

[/QUOTE. Standard short action calibers are built on the 84M action. Standard long action calibers on the 84L. Both of these are the same diameter, just 1/2” or so difference in length. The 8400 is a larger diameter action to house magnum cartridges, be they standard magnums or WSM short action mag. Kimber did build some standard long action rifles (270, 30-06, etc.) on the 8400 action before they developed the 84L, but I’m not aware of any standard short action calibers. Hope this helps some! I currently have three 84M and two 84L rifles. At one time I owned a 375 H&H on the 8400 action! Don’t ask why!!! I guess In case I was attacked by marauding groundhogs or something!!!🤣
