I made a transaction with a friend and ended up with a new Smith/Wesson 9mm Shield.I have never had a polymer firearm and haven't a clue what to watch for in using it.I know there's a lot of other than Kimber gun owners on here so please enlighten me with your knowledge....{p.s...I thought about going on S/W forum but I trust the guys on here already and hope I'm not offending anyone by asking about a non-Kimber}

Heck, we like all kinds of guns. We just happen to be in love with Kimbers.

I've heard good things about the S&W 9mm. I do not own one, but I do own Glocks (another poly gun.) Basically, you can treat them like a $2.00 w*** and they will still work. I don't get the same sense of satisfaction shooting the Glocks as I do the Kimber, but to each their own. If the S&W is like the Glock, they don't need/want a lot of oil. Just basic cleaning, light oil on moving parts, load, point, shoot. IMO, poly guns are dependable lead slingers, not tack drivers.

I haven't seen anything but good comments about the Shield. I don't have any first hand experience though. I do have two Glocks and find nothing to complain about with poly, striker fired pistols.

Jeff, is your shield subject to the recent factory recall?

Smith & Wesson has issued a major consumer safety alert for all M&P Shield Pistols manufactured before August 19, 2013. Released August 22, 2013, the safety alert identified an issue where the M&P Shield's trigger bar pin could damage the trigger's drop safety feature-enabling the pistol to potentially discharge when dropped.
Smith & Wesson urgently warns anyone with a Shield to: "STOP USING YOUR PISTOL IMMEDIATELY UNTIL IT HAS BEEN INSPECTED AND, IF THE CONDITION IS FOUND, REPAIRED."

I have owned 2 shields one in 9mm and one .40S&W, the 9 was great with a good trigger and was one of the first shields to come out, I made the mistake of trading it for the .40 that I did not like way to much recoil, now have a Sig 938 and love it.

Congrats on the new shooter. now take it to the range and let us know it fires.
If he really wants to know how well it shoots he has to get GiGi to take it to the range and shoot it.

You are so right.She already put dibs on shooting it first when it gets here.She even sat at the table with me when I changed the recoil springs on both my PCII and said she wants to do her Ultra when it's time for a field cleaning...

Uh huh. I can see GiGi and my sweetie getting together at our meeting. Sweetie is from Panama. We'll all have to bring our own translator to be sure they aren't conspiring against us.

Sweetie seems to like gun, and like to own guns, but hasn't as yet gone out of her way to practice shooting one. The CCCII she bought same time as me is yet unfired. It's been 5 months. :eek:

My wife loves to shoot also but she's Italian and talks with her arms flailing. so you have to do all your talking before you give her a gun or anything sharp.
That is freaking hilarious.
