Hello, as you can tell from my screen name I'm Billy, and I found this forum by accident when searching for grips for the SAR K-12 Sport. I was going to join a Kimber forum sooner or later, but I figured I'd create an account while I'm visiting this forum.

I have a Kimber 1911 Long Slide 45acp. Its been the best 1911 I've ever owned, and I've had quite a few such as Ruger SR-1911, Rock Island 1911, Girsan 1911, and just recently Magnum Research 1911G Desert Eagle 45acp. Originally I was trying to get the Colt Gold Cup Trophy 1911 (hence the grips in the other picture) because I love stainless steel, but the Colt was just too expensive. Then my local FFL showed me the Kimber 1911 LS, and at first I was a little skeptical because I never shot a Kimber before. But for the price compared to the S&W 1911 and SFA Emissary 1911, why not. Once I took it to the range for the first time, I was totally amazed by its accuracy hitting bullseye. Its now my #1 favorite. I couldn't afford a Colt Gold Cup, so I made one of my own.:giggle:

Thanks I didn't realize till now I spelt my screen name wrong. 😅

I'm from Rhode Island. Nice to you all. Yeah in the second pic the 1911 has a bushing compensator on it. I didn't really notice a much of difference. I like it better without it, and I shot better too without it.

The only trick I had to learn was how to reassemble this particular 1911, not just because of the Long Slide, but other parts as well . For example the size of the recoil guide rod was new to me. Im use to seeing the rods as long as about half way through the spring. The rod on mine is only like 2" long, which can be a pain when your trying to rejoin the slide and frame. It's like you have to have everything lined up first and get everything done in one shot.. ( no pun intended).

I read the reviews on the Kimber 1911 LS and some owners like having the shorter guide rod. But for me it was something new to learn. I've must have put at least 500 rounds through it so far and never jammed once. Another reason why it's my favorite. 😁

Magnum Research 1911G Desert Eagle 45acp vs Kimber 1911 Stainless Target LS 45acp
Who wins?
Wood Trigger Wood stain Hardwood Gun accessory

And yes those are new grips on both, very smooth and comfortable feel. I didn't like the OME / factory grips that came with the 1911s. The rough surface on the original grips were causing a distraction while shooting.
