So, I finally got a chance to sit down with him this evening. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say one of his grandparents was coyote mix. It’s his tail that gives it away. He’s definitely not full blood Siberian as she said. I have a rule against that for a reason, but since that woman drove a few hours to get him here, I’ll give him a chance.

I let her know that he’s growled at the boys a few times already. He nips and he goes straight to the shelter. The boys know how to ease into a new husky. No handling him without me.

I asked about food aggression too. She said with other animals but not humans. That also turned out to not be the case. I reached down and pet his side while he was eating earlier and he started growling. I didn’t stop, he eventually looked up at me and I let him know who’s boss. In her defense, she only had him a short while. There’s surely a lot she didn’t know.

There’s so much going on in that pic, I wish it was clearer.

He got a taste of Miss Raven today. Boys said he came in hot and mean after a bone she had. Apparently, did not know Miss Raven was a scrapper. He came inside with a good sized goose egg on top of his muzzle. Looks like her canines went under the skin horizontally. Probably shouldn’t mess with Miss Raven.

We had a tornado warning earlier. Had all 8 in the house at once… good times 😂. Anyway, more on the growling at the bowl. Three went for the water bowl as I was filling it. As soon as I pulled the bottle away, Red started growling at the others. I gave him a light tap on the head and a gentle “No”. He just looked up at me then put his head down and backed away and let the other two drink. No further aggression at all. This is BIG progress.

Update on Red. Couple of times Nic has had to capture him because he “slipped” passed them. He said both times Red growled when he snatched him but the first time, Nic said he growled back and Red quit. He didn’t say this last time but I assume the same. Still hasn’t nipped at anyone yet. He also grunts like a little pig sometimes. It’s quite funny.

On another note, Red is pretty sick. Been throwing up all over, pretty much all night. Hoping it’s just a bug from playing in the rain. He may not be used to that. He’s been vaccinated, I took care of that right away but it still makes me uneasy.
