I have several sets of VZ grips. They make some good stuff. I was surprised when I removed the grips on both of my TLEs that they were VZ-branded. I replaced them with Kimber wood grips.

 

Yeah, if you are talking about those greenish ones, they look and feel like VZ’s

 

Very nice looking grips.I love my VZ grips but there is just something about the classic wood grip look on a 1911,I personally think that is what makes it a 1911.I have quite a few 1911”s with VZ grips but the wood ones just say 1911.

 

I’ve said it before; grips on a 1911 is like earrings on a woman. Some are cheap, some are expensive. Some look great, some look trashy. Some are just perfect…and some..ain’t.

 

I'm sorry, but I'm one of I think many that has a "grip affliction". I can find a new set of grips for my 1911 that I think is the perfect color, perfect grip, perfect size and buy them. And then it wont be two weeks until I am looking at more grips. And then if have 5 pair of grips for a particular 1911 pistol that I think are about perfect, I will still routinely change them back and forth. I actually have a small set of screw driver bits sitting my my recliner and I am always changing them out. She will look at me and say I'm sorry but I think you are nuts! And, I think she is right.

 

You wife is definitely on to something.

 

Sometimes you just have to come to terms with the fact that the factory just nailed it with what they chose and I’m not just referring to the Raptor. I have replaced grips that were wood, aluminum and G10 and on more than one occasion and I liked the factory grips better. That doesn’t mean I have all factory grips on my guns, just saying you can find an amazing looking set of grips, install them and immediately not like them on your gun.

 

I agree completely. Of the Kimber grips that I did replace, I replaced them with Kimber-branded wood grips.
