I have a Kimber Pro CarryII and the matte finish on the slide is fading rather quickly. It is 2 years old and I have used Birchwood/Casey Gun Scrubber to quick clean it.The frame looks like it did when I bought it and I was wondering since the slide is steel and the frame aluminum is that the difference? I'm getting it re-finished but will I run into the same problem next time and should I change cleaner to something less abrasive?? Looking for help in StLou..thanks

I looked for references but was not able to find any. Maybe someone else knows better but I believe the coating is a version of "ceracote". It's a ceramic bake on coating that comes in several colors. Many gun shops have the ability to re-coat your weapon. Check with the local shops.

The KIMPRO finish is something that people complain about, it's mostly holster ware that gets them going.

Thanks for your replies. It does have the KimPro finish and our gunsmith at the range recommended to re-finish it with the ceracoat procedure.I wasn't sure if it was the Birchwood Gun Scrubber cleaner I was using but it's not doing it to my stainless Kimber or my SP-100.Thanks for your help and I'm glad to have found this site..
