But I removed the red dot cause i want to carry more simplified. However i'm having problems getting the flat replacement cover piece installed in it's place. I can "force" it but don't want to break the plastic tabs on either side that hold it in. I've tried wiggling that piece into place all kinds of different ways but gently. Any tips for this?

TIA

Here's a picture of the plastic plate that would fill the void if the red dot were removed. Because I haven't removed the red dot, I can't say for sure, but I think those might be locating tabs. Maybe the front 2 are inserted in a downward angle and the back end then pressed down? Sort of like a battery cover on a remote? I wouldn't remove it.

I'd suggest you give Kimbers customer service a call on Monday morning and run your question by them. Be polite and get the name of the rep you speak with, if something goes wrong, and you do break a tab another call back to Kimber and asking to speak with the rep you previously spoke with could get you a free replacement.

You slide the front in first. The front tabs hide under a groove. The rear tab on that cover plate does not tuck into the slide.

Don't over-torque the screws or put thread locker on them.

If it doesn't drop right in as I described there's something amiss. I don't know what RDS you have or if it was factory installed, but some of them utilize a thin gasket underneath the sight. That might keep the cover plate from seating correctly. The cover plate doesn't need a gasket.
