You asked for a range report & a photo. Here it is!

So far I've run 350 rounds thru it. Main issue is FTF - usu just the slide not moving fully forward when chambering the 1st round on a full mag. Doesn't do it with 6 or less in the mag. Only 3 FTE - all in the first 150 rounds. Seems to be improving with each visit to the range, so I plan to just keep shooting, cleaning & oiling. Not gonna worry too much about it till I hit 500 rounds.

Is this pretty typical of a Kimber during the break-in period?

If I remember right, poss not, but using the slingshot method when racking is ok with Kimber and might help with the break in process. By the way, SWEET super carry!

I've had the exact same problem with my Compact Stainless II. Slide not going fully forward on the first round of a fresh mag. I only have a little over 200 rounds through it so still in the break-in period.

Leave your mags fully loaded all the time to break them in also. what ammo are you using for your break-in?

You're correct. Don't get too worked up on a few FTF to begin with. My first 100 rds I had 5 FTF/FTE issues. After that she smoothed out and now I have 900 rounds down range without any issues. Enjoy. Thanks for the pic.

You've gotten some good advice, it's way too early in your break in period to worry about it. Keep it clean, keep it oiled, keep shooting it and the ugly duckling should turn into a beautiful swan.

Great looking pistol.

I had the same problem with my Warrior SOC around 250 rounds. Mine seemed to be an ammo issue at the time, but now I'm up to 800 rounds and no issues at all. I'm just starting to tinker around with different ammo and haven't had any problems.

Hey Chicakdee! awesome looking Kimber! I had issues during and after break in period but Kimber customer service took care of me only 2 weeks time.

I will try leaving the mags loaded between trips to the range. I bought a Wilson Combat mag for it last week - it actually seemed to have more FTF's with the new mag...

Current ammo: Federal 45 Auto 230 Grain FMJ

Thanks - that's my plan. Follow the break in period & then call Kimber if I'm still having any issues. Great to hear they took such good care of you & your Tactical!

Another possible cause for FTF is allowing the gun to move backward as the slide is trying to cycle. Called "limp wristing," this can happen if your arms are bent or your grip isn't strong enough. Or even if you are standing up straight with your knees locked and leaning back a bit. That is a comfortable stance but not a solid one. Your knees should be bent and your weight directly over your feet.

You may know all of this but until recently, I didn't know that a poor grip could cause a failure to feed in a semi-automatic.

I have a Pro Carry II with 2000 rounds through it and have had only one FTF which was at 750 rounds. (Kimber recommends changing the recoil spring at 800 rounds) I switched to Wilson Combat ETM magazines and put in their flat-wire spring kit and have never had another FTF. During that time I also learned the proper stance and grip.

Ah Yes.....!

As W.C. Fields used to say, "Ah yes, my little Chickadee!" It is not uncommon to have a few glitches during break in of a new Kimber. Usually the 500 round break in period cleans up any issues and you wind up with a real tack driver!!!

Keep feeding your new Super Carry a steady diet of good American made hardball and it should come out just fine. If not, Kimber Customer Service is your ace in the hole!! Those folks will take care of you!!!!

My Pro Carry II is still living on a hardball diet. Yes, I've had a few FTF's, but at this point (75 rounds) I'm not worried at all! My Smith and Wesson M&P40 Shield will just have to take up the ECD slack until the PC II gets broke in completely!!

By the way, I bought a small box of JHP and my PC II handled it just fine. I had only fed it FMJ until now.
