I ordered a blued recoil spring plug (part# 566B) from Wilson Combat for my Custom Crimson Carry II. It is longer than the original Kimber plug and will not depress enough so that the bushing can be returned to operating position.

After disassembling the gun and playing with everything I'm thinking the length of the plug is not the problem. Since the 566B is a closed plug with a ringed cap I am suspecting that the interior dimension/diameter of the cap is smaller than the Kimber rod.

Does anyone know if a Wilson Combat recoil spring rod diameter is smaller than the Kimber? Has anyone replaced a recoil spring cap?

Never mind. I was being stupid. Spring plug was an ill-advised impulse purchase. Thanks for everyone's help.

Sent a ??? online via their "Contact Us" page. We'll see. The Kimber plug is not capped and the spring rod can fit through the hole. I'm thinking the shoulder of the cap is too narrow.

Unfortunately, I can only speak for the 4-inch barrel model. In my Pro, the Wilson guide rod is quite a bit smaller in diameter than the Kimber rod, to allow for the greater width of the WC flat spring. And of course I have a bushing not a cap. The guide rod has to go through and stick out the end when the slide is back. I know that doesn't help you but I feel much better.

Looks like you made a visit to Gatorland while vacationing at Disneyworld.

That gun came with a full length guide rod which requires a open ended or reverse plug. The 566 is a closed plug for guns running a GI or short guide rod.

The full length rod has to go somewhere when the slide fully to the rear and that somewhere is through the plug.

Ya know, I completely over looked the functional aspect. I was just too focused on why it didn't fit.

Looks like you made a visit to Gatorland while vacationing at Disneyworld.

Well, I was partying with my friend Vladimir Smirnoff.

That was taken on a swamp tour down in bayou country near New Orleans. The Cajun Captain says that alligator is the one they used in the Lubriderm tv commercial. He said they made him look big with a low camera angle. All I could think was "please don't snap my ear off little fella."

Here is a pic of a Wilson Combat Guide Rod Spring Kit #651 for the Pro Series. The Wilson Rod is smaller as is the hole in the bushing. I installed this in my Pro Crimson Carry II. Loving the No tool aspect of it.
