Redemption Arc? Raptor II 10mm Flies Today

Kimber Talk Crew,
Today is the day! As I am still searching for a Kimber to settle on for my choice 1911, I sold off my Rapide Scorpius in .45 ACP. After a trip back to the factory and still encountering some issues, the pistol was serviceable but no longer held my confidence. Perhaps my expectations were too high but, at a $1,600 price tag, I guess I had hoped for more.
But, that does not mean I was going to give up.
I picked up this beautiful Raptor II in 10mm recently and I will be taking it out to shoot here today for it's first run. I wanted a 10mm handgun for obvious reasons and felt that it was a good opportunity to kill to birds with one stone. I'll let you know how it goes!

Fantastic Kimber. Quite possibly the best chambering for the 1911. That pistol will allow you to do most anything you can reasonably expect of a handgun.
Congratulations..

The Raptor line has got to be the best looking gun Kimber makes.

Alright so I ran 140 rounds through the Raptor II 10mm so far.
100 rounds of Sellier & Belot 180gr FMJ
20 rounds of Sig Sauer Elite 180gr JHP
20 rounds of Underwood 220 Hard Cast Flat Nose

I had 3 malfunctions total.
1x Failure To Feed
2x Failure To Eject

Sky Vision care Goggles Sunglasses Eyewear

Sky Aircraft Air gun Gesture Glove

Glasses Sunglasses Vision care Goggles Beard

All 3 malfunctions were from the S&B 180gr FMJ's. Not perfect but not the worst first run I've had with a 1911. Could just not like the ammo or just working out some kinks in the early part of the break in period. I used three factory Kimber 8 round magazines for the testing. 2 of the magazines experienced malfunctions and one did not. And yes, the images are mirrored from recording and I did not fix them haha.

I will keep you posted on further progress!

I was shooting recently and used some S&B I bought when ammo was hard to come by. I had a few ftf’s. It really is crap. Ninja warned me and I already had the S&B. He was right. Most of it worked fine and for the price and availability, I’m not complaining but unless it’s the only ammo I can get, I’m going to avoid it.

S&B pistol ammo sucks.
Their 10mm is terrible. It's inconsistent and loaded weak.
I know it's cheap. Don't buy cheap 10mm.
Use the good stuff if you are going to shoot/test 10mm handguns.

I never tried the 10mm and I don't plan on ever trying it, I had problems with their 45acp. I'd say its bad in all calibers.

To be fair, I have not had any issues with the S&B 9mm stuff. But, it's just 9mm so that might be the reason. Any thoughts on Armscor? or PPU? Just seeing if there are any decent "budget" options.

I shoot budget ammo for ringing steel and punching paper. Except 10mm. SIG is the only cheap 10mm I shoot due to consistency.
For hogs I prefer hotter stuff.
The only Armscor I buy alot of is .22tcm. it has been great so far. Their .45 is meh.
I shoot a ton of Maxx Tech 9mm 115 and 124g. It's fantastic, slightly hotter, and very reliable.

For sighting in, breaking in or testing I only shoot premium ammo so I can do my best to eliminate ammo from the equation of there is an issue.
You need to know if it's the gun or the ammo.

I Recently picked up a Custom 2 in 10mm. It is now my favorite caliber! You will enjoy it for sure. LAX ammo and GA arms have good prices on bulk ammo. I’ve stocked up since I got mine.

Mostly it was failures to feed. Consistently with Colt mags, Wilson mags and Kimber mags. When it came back from the factory, they had polished the feed ramp, adjusted the extractor and replaced the recoil spring. It did improve but still had the occasional hiccup. And this was after over 500 rounds were fired through the gun. It was mostly serviceable after the repair but at that point I had lost confidence in the firearm so I decided to swap it out. Looked great and shot well when it worked. Just didn't maintain my enthusiasm.
