First, the good. My first two shots were almost dead on top of each other and only about 1/2 inch off dead center. After about 70 rounds most of the shots were in a pretty tight group. I got impatient and shot some that were a few inches out, but all in all, the Royal shot like a dream. Accuracy: A.

Second, the bad. After inserting the second magazine and using the slide release to chamber the first round, it failed to go all the way in. I took out the magazine, ejected the round that was halfway in, inserted the magazine, racked the slide and it shot fine. Third magazine, same thing. Forth. Fifth. Same. It was only when using the slide release to chamber a round that it failed to go all the way in.

Third, the good. After about the 6th magazine, it seemed to loosen up a little and I had no more problems. And I shot 100 rounds, or about 12-1/2 magazines, so there were about 7 or 8 magazines in a row that worked perfectly.

So, I'm going to keep feeding her through the break-in period and see how it goes before I freak out and ship her back for therapy. I'm encouraged that it stopped acting pissy and seemed to loosen up a bit.

Stripping and cleaning of course was faster and easier the second time. But it does seem like the fit is extra tight on this gun. The firing pin block for example was hard to get out and hard to get back in. It is much tighter than my Pro Carry. I'll have to switch to my phone to post a couple target pics. My wireless pic transfer to my iPad is on the cold molasses speed setting right now.

While it's new try slingshotting it instead of using the slide release, it can make all the difference in the world while breaking it in.

Hmmm. Doing this direct from my phone. Pics do whatever they want...
Here is about 50 rounds. I got impatient and some strays wandered off. For a while I had all within the second circle. Anyway. I like how she shoots.

Slingshotting...meaning pulling the slide back and letting go?
Yes Sir, sometimes with a tight gun it really makes all the difference during a break in period. Especially with the owners piece of mind ;).

You've got a great gun, it took some patience before you got it now apply that same patience to the breaking in period. Stop and think twice before over thinking a potential problem.

DUDE...

How many times have you read a post about a new gun and read the terms "Break-in period" and "500 rounds"???
You know the firearm will be more than you thought and hoped, but give it the same amount of time you tell others to give..
Great grouping on the targets even if it's only 7 yards...:D

Well, I suppose if I had racked the slide each time I would not have had any failures. But of course I didn't know that. I'll try that for a few range trips.

I've had only one FTF in 2000 rounds with my PC II, so I'm a bit spoiled.

I've never had the privilege of owning or shooting a Royal II but I'd expect it to be a little tighter then a normal tight Kimber.

So far, so good...

Sounds like your new Royal is coming along fine. My new PC II is keeping pace with your Royal. I've encountered the same FTF hang ups as you. I added a Wilson Flat Wire Recoil Spring Kit and had only two failures the last time out. I guess I will join you in slingshotting the slide for the rest of the break in period.

We'll see what happens with the next range session. I'm looking for a clean bill of health the next time. Hopefully my pistol doesn't need Obamacare!!!!:eek: Does Obamacare cover guns or is that politically incorrect???:confused::confused: Not sure??!?!?!?!

It's very pretty and I admire a beautifully blued gun. Unfortunately for me it would not stay that way long. I would fear the holster wear alone. Years ago when most were blued my Colt duty gun was re blued several times and it was carried in a nice lines holster in the dry AZ weather.

Porsche, I'm sorry to hear your Royal II is a POS. Makes me sad, real sad.

But you've been such a good guy on the forum, I'll do you a favor. Even though it has feed problems and can't seem to stay in the "X" ring like it's supposed to, I would be willing to ease your pain. I'll give you ... Font Gas Circle Brand Macro photography
hmmm ,,, how about $1,000, sight unseen.

I know, I know. It's a generous offer, but you don't have to thank me. Sometimes us forum brothers just have to help a brother out. ;)

BTW, nice shooting.

I couldn't take advantage of you like that. It just wouldn't be honorable. ;)

What a guy. But really, don't worry about it. It's not my money. I'm head of the "Someone Buy This Crappy Gun" Support Group. Funds are set aside to help out in such emergencies so disappointed shooters don't go nuts or do anything rash. So, please don't feel badly. Just give me you FFL and account info and we'll get this burden removed and put a smile back on your face.

I have never used the slide lock to release the slide. I always pull back on the slide and let her rip. It should be 100 percent either way but that extra force may help during the break in. I'm a bit surprised your 5" is doing that..I've been really trying to get mine to hiccup using different ammo, shooting single hand, etc but nothing yet.
