I've been wondering if anyone besides myself keeps shot count books but have put off asking until I saw it mentioned in another thread yesterday. I used to keep small notebooks in my range bag but I don't actually keep books anymore, now I keep the information on my computer. I track the number of rounds fired, the brand and type ammo and magazines I used. I've got 13 mags and they're all marked so I can tell them apart. If I have a hiccup like a FTE or any other problem I make a note of it so I can see if a problem is developing. This makes knowing when preventive maintenance is due, like spring replacement before I start having problems. How many rounds do you have left on your recoil spring or firing pin and mainspring, I know exactly where I'm at on each of my guns.

Nope. Never have. But then, of all the guns I've owned in my life I bet I've never put 1,000 rounds through any one of them. Would probably be useful for frequent/competitive shooters who can't afford to have a preventable failure.

I have kept notes on shots fired through my 3 Kimbers but my 2 Ruger revolvers I have not..My Solo had 300 shots down range before sending it back to the mfg and they replaced the recoil spring and 300 since then.Should the maintenance schedule be from the beginning or after I got it back??

The life of your recoil spring begins on the day it was installed, so your Solo recoil spring now has 300 rounds on it. Your other springs have 600 rounds on them.

I don't keep records. Probably should. I do mark my magazines though.

I keep round counts on my computer as well. If I have a failure of any type I note it on the round count for that day. Notes to the round count are ammo, type of failure etc.

I have never felt the need to keep shot records for any of my guns. Even when shooting competitively. I know my Browning has well over 25,000 through it. I have replaced the barrel but it was not any fault of the gun.
Frankly, I'd be very disappointed if any gun, in the price range of the Kimbers, could be fired into a rebuild. I know the factory makes recommendations, just not my method. I guess I'll have to be very aware of the gun.

Yes I do keep a round count.I still do it the old fashioned way in a small notebook for each gun.I count the rounds fired,type of ammo,and note any failures.I just do it as a reminder to perform normal maintenance procedures,and because I'm OCD.

No I reload my own so I have a general idea. no problems with the last thousand so I must be doing something right.
