Hi Kimber dudes..

I've just bought a used Solo and am presently waiting for Kommiefornia's 10 day waiting period before I can pick up my new baby.
The previous owner bought a Sig P938 to replace the Kimber, so I'm assuming my new pistol may have some reliability issues although I obviously haven't shot it yet.

Anyway, I've read that the older recoil springs may have been to tight which may be the cause of some of the reported problems.

Kimber has the recoil spring assembly for only $38 so I was wondering if you think it would be worth picking up a new spring set? Any experience??

P.S. In my searching for Solo stuff found that Midway is closing out Solo mags for $13 bucks. $14 for the extended ones.. Seems like a good deal.

Bosh

Bosh, welcome to the forum.

If possible ask the former owner if he/she knows the approximate number of rounds that have been shot through it. This will give you an idea of whether a new recoil spring is needed. If memory serves, Kimber recommends new recoil spring after about 1k rounds. Of course, that is a rule of thumb and I believe conservative. If you can't find out, I would wait and shoot the pistol and see how it functions. Failures to eject may signal the need for a new recoil spring.

You probably already know, but I recommend you hold the pistol high in the grip with a firm grasp to help reduce flip and the attendant failures to eject and/or feed that may come with failing to do so.

Thanks for the welcome guys.

Wart, I was told the gun has less than 200 rounds through it.
I'm pretty sure the springs are within spec, but I guess
I was wondering if the newer pistols have lighter recoil Springs
that may improve reliability.
Have you heard anything like that?
It may be fine as it is. I think I'll take your advice and give it a try before
spending any more $$$..

Bought 6 mags from Midway at that price. it is a great price paid 30 for extended when I bought the gun. Got 3 6 and 3 8 fro midway just a great price. Also, bought an extra recoil spring for future use. Your spring should be just fine. Welcome.

That would be fantastic Josey.

This 10 day wait bologna in Calif. is killing me.
I found out the FFL that is handling my transfer / waiting period is a certified Cerakote applicator.
Some of the KimPro was chipping off my Solo, so I called him up and they are going to re-finish the frame in "Graphite Black".
Cant wait.

Welcome from the Midwest. I have a SOLO STS and it works fine with the correct ammunition. Down load a Pdf version of the owners manual from Kimbers web site. It will tell you when to replace the springs.

I like my Solo but I too am considering the P938. Good luck and again welcome.
