Picked up a brand new Kimber Ultra Carry in .45 yesterday, Discovered it doesn't want to feed 230 or 200 gr hollow points, the ammo is not from Hornady but the bullets look like they may be, the bullet hangs uo on the feed ramp and will not chamber. What do user's of this particular gun carry for ammo in it? Looks like it is back to carrying the Ruger Commander until I get this sorted out. A co-worker recommended Hornady 165 gr. Critical Defense, any thoughts, opinions??

Might want to run 50-100 rounds of FMJ ammo before worrying about HP ammo.

All good advice.
I run 185gr CD in all my EDC .45's, all run very well with the stuff.
I also always polish the barrel feed ramp with my Dremel and the felt pad loaded with Flitz to aid chambering too.
It can't hurt, and every type of bullet profile chambers as smooth as snot (very smooth. )

I use Speer Gold Dot in 9mm…Good stuff.

If your Ultra is new it is not broken in, I'm not surprised that it won't feed hollow points. Read your owners manual as to break in procedures.

Use FMJ to break it in, you should be able to find that in your owner's manual. I like to run about 500 rounds through a new gun before I start playing with carry ammo.

I run 185gn truncated cone for annual qualification and 185 gn hollow point for EDC. I have not had any issues.

I ran approximately 500 rounds of FMJ before I started hollow points in mine. It will run anything I put it in without issue. I will also say I never had one hiccup with mine during break in either.

Every Ultra I own during the first range session after anywhere from 50 to 300 FMJ rounds I fire two magazines of Speer 185gr Gold Dot +P hollow points and never had a issue with any of them.

I only have 2 ultras but I haven't had any issues with either of them. I've used HST, Gold Saber, Sig VCrown, Cor-Bon, Hornady and Speer Gold Dot. They all worked just fine.
