I have been looking at 3" 1911's for some time now. I have looked at the*Colt*Defender*and various models of the Kimber Ultras. I have narrowed it down to either the*Ultra*CDP*II*or the*Ultra Raptor. The question I have is this, is there really much difference between these two models other than appearance? Also Pros & Cons of each would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

I have the ultra CDP II and love it! Best gun I have owned. I bought it new about 5 years ago ( just thinking how time flyes) never a problem. The raptor came out after I bought the CDP II and have not scrutinized the difference.

I looked at one when I bought my Pro CDP a few months ago the only difference I could find where cosmetic the slide has different type of checkering on the top and sides and different grips inside I thank it is all Kimber 1911 but I am no expert on Kimbers.

The two you mention are nearly identical weapons. There are minor differences but the basics, size, material, weight, carry capacity are all the same. Depending upon the dealer, there may be a couple hundred dollars difference in price.
You can get very clear specs on both weapons at Kimber America | Fine 1911 Pistols and Rifles

Well, I went back to my LGS and look at all the different models of the Kimber Ultras. After fondling and drooling over them, I finally decided on the SS*Ultra*Raptor. It was the model that I kept comparing the others to. On the way home I even stopped by the range to try I out. I was amazed at just how accurate it was and also at how smooth everything felt. I have a couple of Springfiefds and a Colt, but I now feel the*Raptor*will be my favorite 1911 now.

Here is a couple of pictures of my new favorite 1911. I also had a holster that I made for my EMP that I did in chocolate brown with a brown ostrich leg and python insert. It fits the style of the Raptor well.

Love the holsters. Finally someone who understands. Most holster makers seem to think, "cant", has something to do with an issue they are unable to overcome. I like a holster I can ride at a 4:00 to 4:30 position but still get my hand on the entire grip. As a bonus, this cant makes the weapon easier to conceal.
When I can, my Ultra Carry II is my daily. For me, because of the job, I often can't wear clothes that conceal a large grip easily. The extra forward leaning position of a belt holster with a generous cant aids in concealing under lighter clothing.
