I have Vortex Venoms (3 MOA dot) on my S&W 686 and a Ruger MkII. They've been very solid, have nice crisp dots and clear glass. You can't beat the Vortex warranty, either. I also have a Holosun 507K with the ACSS green reticle on my HK P2000SK. The Holosun is significantly smaller and definitely more "feature packed". I like the green better than red and the ACSS reticle basically eliminates searching for the dot upon presentation.....but it was also almost $80 more expensive than the Vortex. Shake awake is more of a relevant feature for use on a nightstand gun than on an EDC because when carrying the gun it will almost always be in motion and hence, on. Not much different than turning the sight on when you holster it and turning it off when you take it off at night.

I'm going to try one of my Venoms on my Custom TLEII with a Burris Fastfire dovetail mount to see how I like a dot on that pistol.
Tomorrow I’m going to try to get to the range to sight in my Venon. The weekend have been very busy lately.

I’m a fan of shake awake feature but for the gun I’m using the red dot on, it’s not really going to make a difference for me.
The Holosun was what I really thought I was going to buy. I even have the mounting plate for one. At some point the Venom might go on something else and I buy a Holosun.
Thanks for your input.

I agree - Holosun is currently making the rest of the reflex sight manufactures look pretty lame. IMO - ACSS is the best thing since sliced bread but even if somebody doesn't go ACSS, their multi-reticle system and range of offerings from tiny to big, from open emitter to enlosed, etc., is ust beyond any other brand.
Shake awake/motion activation is a game changer.
It extended battery life by years.

Holosun also didn't overcharge on a government contract, so they are still free to keep pricing reasonable, and bring new innovation to the public market.

Yesterday, I made it to the range and sighted in the Vortex Venom. It didn’t take much to get it right. I like the 6 moa dot. It’s very easy to pick up quickly. I was hitting a 3” and a 6” splatter target at 20 yards using 10mm 180gr FreedomMunitions ammo. For me, that’s really good, I usually only go out about 15 yards. If this had the shake awake feature, it would be perfect.

I found that in the beginning I was faster with irons, but more accurate with the dot.
After 6 months or so of getting used to it, I was just as fast as irons, and way more accurate with the dot.
Now I can make 100yard hits with my carry gun, and my eyes suck.
I have a tiny 2 moa dot on my KHX and it's surgical.

I have the Holosun 507c3 ACSS green sight on a Shadow Systems pistol, and it is a game changer! Got it from Primary Arms as an open box deal. Perfect in every way.
Thats the one with their chevron reticle? Do you have astigmatism and if so, does that eff up the crispness of the chevron? I was all set to order one then I realized it may be a prob for my eyes.

This is my 2nd red dot on a handgun and I’m really liking it. My wife is asking for a gun with a dot now. Her birthday is coming up in April, maybe I’ll get her something with a red dot.

I would suggest dropping by your LGS, finding a gun with a dot and try out the sight picture.
The Holosun optics have fantastic glass, but the issue with astigmatism can vary from shooter to shooter.

I switched because I have issues focusing on the front sight and the target. One is always very blurry.
Dot solved that problem.

I have seven Holosuns in various models. Mainly because they give me the best dot. I don’t need another dot at the moment. But…

PA has that Vulcan model and almost bought it till I realized the chevron might be blurred. More of a curiosity at this point.

All my Holosuns give me probs. But out of any other red dot, they are the cleanest to my eyes than any other brand.

Ahh that makes sense.
I haven't looked through the Vulcan yet but will tomorrow.

Note that there are a couple versions of the ACSS - the one with the chevron reticle in the 507c and one with a dot in the 507k. I have the 507k green acss and so far absolutely love it. For me, the key feature of the ACSS isn't the dot or chevron, it's the large outer circle that facilitates very fast acquisition of the dot, particularly if you are misaligned at presentation. You never see that circle unless you are off center, so it doesn't clutter the sight picture. I have astigmatism as well and find the 2 moa green dot on mine to be nice and crisp. YMMV of course.

Do you have the chevron? I miss that from my Acog days.

My main likes with Holosun are shake awake, solar and now, the eps as the newer ones come out. Not to mention best for -my- eyes.

Everyone that talks about the Solar abilities constantly blab about solar charging, etc. (Don’t know why Holo advertises it that way.
The hell with that).
I like the fact that it can adjust light on the move. If you are using it for edc, its great. My non solar models are a pain if you are in and out. You have to find a happy median.
Inside it can be too bright, set it lower and outside ya cant see it at all. The solar works great for that.

Mine is the 507k ACSS, which is smaller than the c and does not have the chevron but does have the 250 moa outer circle, which is invisible when you are aligned and comes into the window when misaligned as an instant guide as to which direction you need to go to get the dot back.

I'd like to try the 507c with the chevron and will get one of those when a buy a larger pistol. However, I'm not sure that I'm really steady enough offhand with a pistol to make full use of the advantages the chevron offers. The 507k is the perfect size for me on my P2000SK and the 2 moa dot is plenty precise for my use and abilities.

Holy Toledo Batman!

I really need to start shooting my OI's and update my EDC.
That's not an exaggeration.
I can ring a steel torso at 100 yards with my p365xl and the Holosun.
I can do it with my KHX (with optic) too, but that's almost cheating.
I have to hold over alot with both, but it's not that difficult with a red dot.

I'm also not a great shot.
I'm okay, and I shoot often.
My eyes can't focus on my irons and a torso at 50 yards.
With the dot I keep both eyes open, the hood disappears, dot on target and Bob's yer uncle.

Sounds like my issue, focussing on the target and the front sight at once. It's like the venn diagram just can't find consensus. I'm decent with irons out to 25 yards with my gov't, but it feels a lot harder than it should for someone who can read an exit at a quarter mile but can't see the date on his watch without a cyclops.

I have the Vortex Venom and several different Holosuns. I would choose the Holosuns for most use cases—the reticle just looks clearer to me. Vortex has great warranties though so I generally use their optics (scopes on several rifles). Just not a huge fan of their reflex sights for pistols.
