I bought a Weigand scope mount like this one 3rd Generation Scopemount, silver : 1911 AUTO 3rd GENERATION SCOPEMOUNT? | Brownells

My thinking was having a frame mounted scope mount I could switch between my 22 conversion and 45 slides/barrels.

Well, with full size Kimber, you have to not only remove rear sights to clear the Weigand scope mount you have to grind the two "wings" on the sight base. The Kimber is the only 1911 I know that has a spring and "safety" under the rear sight mount so you have to have rear sight base on slide for it to work.

Anyway, the problem is the tiny clearance between the top of the slide and the Weigand scope mount.
