Know what you mean! “NEED” has nothing to do with it!!!🤣. Wasn’t looking for anything in that price range. Just happened to be in LGS the other day and heard a low, soft whisper calling out my name. When I went back today and handled it, it started kinda shouting! Got me to thinkin!!! And all of a sudden, the stainless Raptor I’ve been thinking about doesn’t seem very expensive!🤔😁. Then Arland comes along with THAT pic!!! Ahhh, so many fine guns, so little time (and $$$)!! By the way, Rick, did you get your replacement spring plug?
stockmaker, yup, the little recoil spring plug for my compact conversion arrived yesterday from Kimber. The original still is MIA, location unknown, but the little pistol is now field-ready and will be part of the Rat Rodeo kit next month.

Got word that my WC SFX9 3.25" is in production. No word of a ship date though. I liked the above comment that every man deserves at least ONE premium 1911. Seems like advice even I can follow. lol

And a shout-out to our buddy ninja who mentored me on the purchase of a RDS for my old Ruger MK-I 5.5" HB rat pistol. It now wears a Holosun 507 green dot on the rail and will also be in the field next month. Thanks ninja, sound advice, the installation went off perfectly, ready to sight the little puppy in soon. You now wear the title of "Red Dot Guru".....at least here on KT. :)

All good news Rick! I’m almost as excited about your “rat shoot” as you are! That tells me you can relate a story well!

Thanks Brad. This yearly event is something I look forward to more now than mule deer or elk hunting these days. Being 76 now with more hardware in one ankle than Ace Hardware, 4 fractured vertebra in my spine, rebuilt knee, two prosthetic hips and 10% of my guts "removed" (aka 'blown out'), plus more, humping the mountains is just not in the cards any more. So the group outings for rat removal with the crew takes top honors for the "fun factor" now. In a week, the total ammunition expenditure for the crew runs right at 2,000+ rounds downrange, rifle and pistol. Good thing we all handload!

Only bummer related to this upcoming event is that my WC SFX9 3.25" won't be here in time. But at last count, there'll be six rifles and four handguns going along for evening pistol drills and rat-wackin' from the bench. Three Kimbers and my Browning Hi-Power for ringing the steel. If I'm processing oxygen, I want to be shooting! ;)

I'll be sure to get a few pics of the great job you did on the modified 22LR magzine for my compact conversion (with 'victim' pic). The little pistol now looks like it should have from the factory without the dang magazine hanging down from the grip. I'm thinking that I'll most likely need at least one more modified magazine.....one is none, two is one...... Excellent work there, my friend. :)

So for now, we'll call this the "Before" pic. "After" pic forthcoming once we have the proper background and participants available.......(wink, wink)

From the wearing on the alloy frame, you can tell this one gets lots of use. The way it should be! :)

Sounds like you’re a walking miracle,Rick! Glad you’re still enjoying things and you’re an inspiration to all of us!!! I guess the WC not arriving sooner just gives ya something to look forward to after the rodeo! Appreciate you’re compliments and looking forward to the pics/stories from the “shoot “! Glad the compact is all in one piece again!👍

I stopped by a local gun shop this morning and he had two Wilson Combats in the case. They are beautiful, I tried my best not to make eye contact but I did see one price tag $2999. I didn’t even pick it up.
I did the same thing on the first go round. Next trip I handled it! It takes a strong will to not touch!😁 It’ll keep looking at you till it wears ya down!👀

Gun shops around here don't usually carry high-end 1911s, so it makes it easy to avoid seeing them. One place will have some Nighthawks and this place has a few from Wilson Combat. I would have to travel about an hour to find a shop with a good selection in stock. If I was spending $2500 or more on a 1911, I'd like to see in person.

That’s exactly how it is here! My LGS is the only shop within an hour that carries a good selection of Kimbers, a few DW when they can get them, and this is the first WC that I have seen. They had some Nighthawks for about a week, that they had brought in from their second store ( in a much larger town with a lot more population). They said higher end guns sold better there. They are the second largest dealer in the state, primarily because they attend all the larger gun shows and sell a lot there! I, also, did not pick up one of the $4000 Nighthawks!!!!

When this one place first started selling Nighthawk, I saw one Nighthawk with a 3.5" barrel in the case.I don't know the model. I ask the guy at the counter who I know if I could see the Nighthawk. He handed it to me and I pulled the slide back and it was smooth as glass. I was very impressed with the action and the feel in my hand. It was $3500 which was way out of my league at the time. That feel, smooth action and beautiful finish is what you pay for. One day I'll come across one that I have to have and buy it.

This post reminds me of a parallel, high end pistols to high end cars.
Many years ago while eating at a local restaurant that had a Porsche and BMW dealership nextdoor, wifey and I decided to stroll over to see some nice BMW's after lunch. The sales dude told us to "just take it out for the afternoon". We did, and promptly came back and ordered one from the factory. That led to a series of the things over the years since.

Moral: If you're in a gunshop and see that Wilson or Nighthawk beauty in the display case, if you handle it, you're doomed! It will come home with you!
This has been a public service message from one who's been there.....;)
