1911's are notoriously ammo sensitive. They were designed around FMJ bullets, and other bullet shapes can get hung up if they enter the feed ramp at the wrong angle. You may need a bullet with a more rounded profile. Change bullets, or try this.
So, obviously, keep 7 in the mag and one in the chamber. Load the mag with seven, chamber 1, and remove the mag and load another round in the magazine. Make sure you run at least 100 rounds through it to check reliability.
