Favorite Modifications for Micro 9

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for ideas for upgrades for my Micro 9.

Firstly looking at an Mcarbo trigger spring kit.

Then, if it will fit (?) a skeletonized P938 trigger.

I also have a set of grips coming from Altamont for grip and aesthetics.

I may be able to do the work myself, given my mechanical background, but I’d rather give it all to a reputable gunsmith and have them do it.

Questions:
What night/day sights do you favor?
What kind of “polishing” could/should I ask for?
Any other aftermarket upgrades?
Who would you recommend for gunsmith work?

Please and Thank you!

Emily
Hi Emily! Welcome to the forum. I agree with what Chuck says about upgrades. Shoot the snot out of it...run 500 rounds thru it..if all is good, then add the Mcarbo kit. I do like the look of that Sig trigger. Save all the old parts...if you do have to return it to the mothership you'll need to return it to original.

Thankyou, this does make sense. I’ve put about 200 rounds through it, I’ll put another 300 or so through before playing with it.

As for break in, is there a specified round count that Kimber adhere to? If not, what particular signs should I be looking for other than everything being a little looser without being loosey goosey, ie. specific wear markings?
No specific round count per'se.. Kimbers are manufactured to tight tolerances, so the objective is to wear the parts in so they're in harmony with one another.. the frame rails that the slide rides on will become polished and glass smooth in its operation. The trigger will smooth out. Overall.. the gun will operate smoother. After 500 trouble free rounds the probability of it needing any warranty service is greatly reduced. All the moving parts will just mesh better.

Mods are fine as long as you don't alter the original composition of the firearm in such a way that it is irreversible. Putting a Mcarbo spring kit is a change out of springs that can be easily reversed should the firearm require a return trip. We have a member who did just that and reinstalled the originals for the return and had no problems.

Upgrading sights and grip panels should present no problems with warranty.
