Mag release spring replacement.

I'm having trouble finding the correct tool to remove the magazine release so that I can replace the spring with something a little less stiff.
I tried a 1/16 allen head but it didn't feel like it was tight enough and I do not want to strip anything. So can someone help by telling me what to use?
Eclipse Pro II

Thanks,
Mike

Wow, I went back and checked to see what model I listed and I actually posted that I had an Eclipse Pro II when in fact I have an Eclipse Custom II...
I've been looking at so many other models for my next purchase that I got my wires crossed.
I would think since it seems that I do that on a regular basis that I wouldn't be embarrassed about it, but NOPE... totally embarrassed.
Sorry for any confusion

Mike

That's odd. A Torx.

We hate to admit it, but we is all getting older. Time to face up to it. Not very stylish but reading glasses can be your friend. I don't use them much for reading but when I sharpen the chain on the chainsaw, or do some fine detail work on pistols they are nice to have handy. I've some 3x powered ones, I'm going to start keeping in the firearms maintenance tool box. Just saying...

After changing the spring to a lighter one the fully compressed length will be less than the standard one. Which means that the release can pressed deeper which if you use too much force will result in the mag being trapped and not dropping free. I too change to a lighter spring.

Use a 1/4" parallel round file to cut the radius deeper to prevent trapping.

Yeah I know about the screw not being a screw, it's just a 1/4 turn to get the spring out but what is the correct tool to do the 1/4 turn with?
Its not a standard screw head but I think it's an allen head. I seen somewhere that it was a 1/16 size allen but my 1/16 allen doesn't fit snugly.
And I'm not crazy about snipping anything off from the spring so I got an assortment of springs from Brownells that should let me get the release I'm looking for.

I've also seen videos of folks wanting to lessen the spring tension of their mag release. They simply cut one or two loops off the end of the spring. Apparently it doesn't take much, so you may want to stick with one loop at a time.

It takes very little pressure to turn the catch. It is not a screw. Depress the mag release button about half way and turn the Allen head catch about a third of a turn counterclockwise. The whole assembly then comes out. You will then see how it works.
